Pretty good bird, kind of overdoing it on the color based naming scheme, 7/10 would bird again.

Very distinctive call

I haven't lived in their range for a long time, but I've always liked them. They look great, (if I remember correctly) their singing is pretty nice too.

There are always tons of them in a field behind my house, so I'm just kind of used to seeing them back there. But they have a nice song, and it's always amusing watching them land on a tall strand of reed or prairie grass and seeing it bob back and forth in a comically slow arc.

Hadn't seen many lately but, they photograph well, and they don't sound like ass.

I wish they'd pick a color. I don't care which one.

Personally, I prefere Tits.

[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 4 points 1 year ago

I prefer Great Tits over Japanese Tits, though

[-] theKalash@feddit.ch 3 points 1 year ago

I also quite like Brown Boobies.

Ooh good one!

The err... The bird, of course!

[-] dmention7@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Your downvote probably came from someone who prefers Boobies.

They're neat but could shut up more. I'm trying to listen to a cardinal make laser noises and suddenly one of those dudes REEEEEs right near me.

[-] x4740N@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Thankyou for the mental image

[-] ratz30@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I like them! There's a nice little Canadian folk song about them too

[-] DrBob@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

They nest by the pond behind the house in the spring. They have a pretty song and they gang up to harass the crows. A1 bird in my books.

It's also funny that they disappear all at once at the peak of summer. Once the young have fledged they leave the pond and it's suddenly quiet just when it's hottest.

[-] Im14abeer@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago

I guess they make pretty good birds, but they really need to chill out a bit. I'm 30 feet from your nest dude, no need to dive bomb me.

[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 points 1 year ago

That's about 10m from the nest, for the rest of the world

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

They’s an alright bird I spose

[-] danwardvs@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I like the colouring on them. Easy to identify
