If I never heard the name of any of these royal dipshits again I would be perfectly OK with it.

They're handing out cancer to royalty like Oprah over there. You Brits doing OK? Something in the fish and/or chips?

Human being is still a human being.

A cancer diagnosis is still a terrible thing.

While I do agree with your sentiment, you've to ask - will the rich show the same concern towards the regular or poor folk?

The chances of your survival are significantly higher if you're affluent. And that's not because the treatments are inherently costly. It's because the big pharma and the medical insurance companies have no concern towards the patients' suffering compared to their profits. The prices they impose are inflated way beyond reasonable returns. It's rigged to ensure only the survival of the rich.

At some point, you've to ask - how much do we forgive before we start considering these people as a threat to the general community?

Princess Diana did for those with HIV/AIDS. I don't mean to say Princess Catherine can be compared to Princess Diana, but they are both Princesses of Wales.

I 100% agree with reforming the medical system, but I don't think being antagonist against Kate Middleton is helpful.

What the family did to Di should negate any validity in this argument. The had one decent person in the last century and they killed her

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

What the family did to Di is disgusting but it can not be invalidated by anyone. This isn't a zero sum game.

If the royal family does something good, you applaud them. If they do something bad, you shame them (or hold them accountable legally depending on the issue.)

I'm not asking for a high bar here. If Princess Catherine has a cancer diagnosis, I wish her a speedy recovery and her family well. If your family member has a cancer diagnosis, I wish them a speedy recovery and your family well.

If some crazy pharma bro has a cancer diagnosis, I wish them a speedy recovery and their family well. I do hope they learn from their experience but my original statement stands.

There are videos where Diana herself says that she's isolated in the family and denied her privileges for her attitude and charity work. And when she died, she was deservedly mourned by millions of ordinary people. I have serious doubts whether her own family (the royal ones) mourned her as much. But she is a rare exception among rich people. How many others do you know who showed compassion from her position?

I'm not being antagonistic against Kate. I don't wish for anyone to suffer from Cancer. What I'm saying is that perhaps rich people in general don't deserve sympathy from ordinary people. The sympathy they show is heavily skewed and at times they're just sociopathic in pursuit of wealth.

Sellafield is leaking nuclear sludge due to decades of neglect and apathy; an entirely British problem
