2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The screenplay was written by Kubrick and science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke, and was inspired by Clarke's 1951 short story "The Sentinel" and other short stories by Clarke. Clarke also published a novelisation of the film, in part written concurrently with the screenplay, after the film's release. The film stars Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, and Douglas Rain and follows a voyage by astronauts, scientists, and the sentient supercomputer HAL to Jupiter to investigate an alien monolith.

The film is noted for its scientifically accurate depiction of space flight, pioneering special effects, and ambiguous imagery. Kubrick avoided conventional cinematic and narrative techniques; dialogue is used sparingly, and there are long sequences accompanied only by music. The soundtrack incorporates numerous works of classical music, including pieces by composers such as Richard Strauss, Johann Strauss II, Aram Khachaturian, and Gyรถrgy Ligeti.

The film received diverse critical responses, ranging from those who saw it as darkly apocalyptic to those who saw it as an optimistic reappraisal of the hopes of humanity. Critics noted its exploration of themes such as human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning Kubrick the award for his direction of the visual effects. The film is now widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made.

I experienced bulling myself. These trans-bathrooms kids who say they're being bullied. I understand that because I got my dick stuck in an elephant.

I have never seen a Kubrick film that I appreciated. There were some cool shots and aesthetics here and there, but overall I'm not a fan of his style of storytelling.

2001 felt boring. Clockwork felt gross. FMJ was decent in the first half, but I forgot everything after the rifle incident scene. I've admittedly never watched the Shining. I get that these movies have been influential to other films, but Kubrick seems over-hyped in the storytelling aspect. Good visuals and music though.

I don't get it, why are these movies so revered?

I found out Nicotine+ lets you ban entire countries and also lets you set a custom message so if there's anything better than just a simple "Free Palestine" I should use for my Israel ban let me know. Otherwise im-doing-my-part

cw: me complaining about cooking meatMan today's menu was a pain in the ass. I hate dredging chicken in flour to sear on the flattop, it takes so fucking long, literally an hour at least for me to sear 80# of chicken and that's not counting time spent dredgingv it in flour.

I wish the chef just let me deep fry it like I wanted to because then I wouldn't have had to baby sit it and would have had the time to slice pork tenderloin into chops and grill those (rather than roast the whole tenderloin and then slice) which i wanted to do because these college kids clearlyv prefer pork with cross hatched grill marks, every time i do that they eat about all of it vs always having leftovers otherwise

Anyway dinner's out but I'm ffucking tired and now I need to clean the flattop (hate) and flatten 80Ib of chicken for wednesday for this stupid chicken schnitzel we're doing and I really just wanna go home and lie down

I hate when people are like "You can't criticize this media work because you only watched 20 hours of the 16,000,000 total hours of runtime, and if you haven't watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE and consumed all the tie in comics, books, videogames, telenovelas, ASMR channels, branded food products, and spin off highschool AUs you cannot form an opinion.

Like there is a threshold of participation before you can really talk about something, but one season of any given show or anime is enough to have opinions.

This goes eightfold for any product where people are like "Well, you see, after eight years of unrelenting misogyny, misanthropy, cruelty, and racism the author actually revealed in the last half of the final season that the story was about hte power of tolerance and friendship all along!"

You can add YouTube channels as an RSS feed by taking the channel ID (usually found on the URL of the channel's homepage) and attaching it to the end of this string as such: www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id= <external-channel-id>

Considering how all invidious/piped instances were sabotaged by Alphabet Inc. RSS feeds are a good backup in case that happens since you can easily stream/download yt videos with mpv and yt-dlp.

Also RSS Feeds are a good way to communicate your interests to people and share cool stuff. niko-happy

Some Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 thoughts:

  • oof oh goodness, 70s anime smells so fuckin good. NATOpedia notes that a lot of critics have complained of 0079's animation being "dated", but bitch that shit aged like fine wine comfy-cool especially among TV, limited-animation stuff it is pretty good.

  • Nobody warned me this soundtrack would fuck so hard?? Mecha Warfare, Soundtrack by fucking Van McCoy lmao. Sometimes it creates tone clash but it's so cheesy and beautiful, 10/10.

  • Does Char suck? He kinda seems like he sucks. I guess the new Federation mobile suit must be REALLY good, cause the legendary Red Comet in his specialty pink Zaku, who took down five ships on his own, is getting clowned by some untrained kid in a mech. When Char says "That Federation mobile suit's a monster!!" I smell Zeon cope tbh.

0079 is nice I enjoy it!
