Round 1 - surge in measles due to anti vax

Round 2 - surge in blindness due to staring at the sun to own the libs

[-] alilbee@lemmy.world 37 points 9 months ago

Turn yourself into a dependent of the state to show how much of a cool conservative you are, or something.

[-] RealFknNito@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Then cut their own funding because nobody gets a free ride, not even the kids.

And these people are spreading disinformation in the form of what's called coordinated messaging that illegal unvaccinated immigrants are the ones causing the measles outbreak! I've seen it all over Facebook.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 73 points 9 months ago

Oh please fuck around and find out..

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 49 points 9 months ago

Thoughts and prayers for your retinas

[-] Naja_Kaouthia@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago

I, for one, cordially invite them to.

[-] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 66 points 9 months ago

The initial post comes across to me as intentionally crafted to spread and cause mischief. But, it's also very possibly an example of poe's law. When you so accurately mimic stupid, how can anyone tell for sure whether it's parody. It could just as easily be a real post.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago

It's coordinated messaging, a weaponized disinformation tactic.

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 10 points 9 months ago

You mean like when someone posts a scam link and another person immediately pops up and says that this is the best [scam name] they ever used?

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

Nope, it's when a group of disinformation twits post the same message on all their social media accounts to try and spread rumors.

[-] Assman@sh.itjust.works 60 points 9 months ago

Please think logically people... God has been doing volcanoes for a very long time & nowhere does he mention we need to not jump in them

[-] Masamune@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Please think logically people... God has been doing water for a very long time & nowhere does he mention we need to not inhale his miracle life giving substance or breathe "air".

Sure, and mountains have been there for centuries, no reason why we shouldn't climb Everest despite the piles of corpses up there.

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 10 points 9 months ago

Well, piles won't pile themselves

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 43 points 9 months ago
[-] Thorry84@feddit.nl 17 points 9 months ago

Good thing he pointed at it, we would forget where the sun is if he didn't.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

Clearly it burned his last living brain cell.

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 months ago

I think the amphetamines did that, but the sun certainly didn't help.

Anyone who wants to see the eclipse (if you're in an area that can see it) and don't have glasses go to a tree covered area and watch the shadows of the leaves on the ground, it's pretty trippy

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 20 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

This is what I saw, more or less, in 2017. The noticeable dimming and the crescent dappling was very interesting and eerie. We're in for about a minute of totality this time, though we're also getting predictions of clouds, so maybe no corona. :-(

[-] knightly@pawb.social 4 points 9 months ago

I did this in 2017 too, but I also used a pair of binoculars to project a clear image on the ground. It was beautiful~

Watch the reflection in a black tub or bin filled with still water or hang a white sheet a few feet above your head.

The water mirror will be the better option to watch progress until totality.

[-] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 30 points 9 months ago

Fuck around 👈we are here

Find out 👈we shall be here soon

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 4 points 9 months ago

It seems to take longer than expected

Nowhere in the Bible does God say you shouldn't jump into a wood chipper. Saying they're dangerous is just woke propaganda; actually it'll fix everything that ails you and I highly suggest all conservatives go and give it a try

[-] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 28 points 9 months ago

“Please think logically…”

“god…”

🤦‍♂️

[-] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 20 points 8 months ago

The top one is bait.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 17 points 9 months ago

Here's a neat thing: It is entirely safe to directly view a total eclipse, the part where you only see the corona and not the actual sun.

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago

Oh, if only there were a worldwide network of information resources that could explain to them what the risks are and how the glasses can be both prudent and enhance your experience! If only!

The biggest thing with the glasses is that if you wear them, you get to stare at the freakin' sun! That's awesome. Beyond that, you just have to make sure you put them on before totality is done, or look away before it's done to let your eyes adjust naturally. I sense that these dummies are exactly the ones who will stare at the corona until they see a split second sunrise that fries n-percent of their photoreceptors. It's fine though, I'm sure at least one of them will end up with a Jesus-shaped retinopathy spot.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 5 points 9 months ago

Then they can put their eyeball on ebay.

[-] stinerman@midwest.social 15 points 9 months ago

God has been making arsenic for a very long time...

[-] nothacking@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Fuck around and find out.

Wikipedia says the damage from this is mostly heals after a few months, so they will probobly be fine. Will be an intresting few months though.

[-] SeekPie@lemm.ee 13 points 9 months ago

The answer as to why it's dangerous is literally a single search away. It would've taken less time to search it up than spread this shit around.

[-] Signtist@lemm.ee 12 points 9 months ago

You don't come to this conclusion if you're the kind of person to trust legitimate sources of information.

[-] Chestnut@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago
[-] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 10 points 9 months ago

Ya know I always figured that staring into the nuclear ball of gas providing earths heat was bad but I didn’t know the science behind it so thanks for sharing

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

It's no joke!

[-] HopingForBetter@lemmy.today 11 points 9 months ago

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!!! I got 6! I got 6 on the sun stare!

sun worship is the most sensible religion, because you can say "don't look at god or he'll dim your eyesight"

[-] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 11 points 9 months ago

People that make these claims should be forced to do what they claim is safe

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

I saw one post on Facebook which said "measles is just a disease that you have to stay in bed a few days for". Like fuck off.

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Of course it is. Ask any American Indian.

[-] null@slrpnk.net 10 points 9 months ago

They are welcome to do their own research, I suppose.

I hope a number of them destroy their vision.

[-] xenoclast@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

I hope, but seems unlikely, that it sterilizes them before they can breed.

[-] Starkstruck@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

The sun is out everyday! Why not stare at it? /S

[-] Siethron@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

It's ok to look at during totality, but if any of the sun is peeking out it's dangerous.
