This is stupid, but not for the reason you think. It's not stupid because he 'can't recognize who is sueing him'. That is a typical stalling tactic by attorneys that know that you are boned but you have money. The idea is that you can outspend the other party for fees. This usually doesn't work at these level s if the other attorney isn't stupid and is working for a winning payout, and not for billing.

It's stupid because if this ever goes to court, it will look really bad, either he is purposefully stalling or he is incompetent. He took some really short-sighted legal advice.

He took some really short-sighted legal advice.

Entirely possible that he got this advice in the past, when it actually worked for another case, and has just refused to listen to anybody correcting him since then because he now thinks he understands how law works.

My favorite part of the deposition is where Bankston more or less says, "In the future, please come to a deposition with an attorney who understands the law."

Absolutely roasted. chefs-kiss

Bankston? Mark Bankston? Mark Bankston who informed Alex Jones he had his whole phone to his face on the stand? Mark is excellent, if you haven't you should listen to some of the Formulaic Objection episodes of Kowledge Fight, which goes over the depos of Infowars in their Sandy Hook lawsuits. First Episode they had less details, but episodes 2, 4-7 or so have Mark and his cocounsel Bill raking those idiots. They're very entertaining.

thanks for the rec, I am gonna check this out

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

I forgot his lawyers sent everything to the prosecutors lmao. I wonder what kind of beef caused this because they had the opportunity to declare it confidential and didn’t, and it seems that he didn’t even notify Jones of the incident. Wonder if that infowars check bounced and he got upset.

Either way, I read the first few pages of the deposition this morning, and it really just goes on like that. Musk's attorney is a piece of work as well. My understanding is that he's some kind of high profile celebrity attorney, but going by what I've read, he can't possibly be worth the fortune that I'm sure he charges. Or perhaps I'm overestimating the difficulties of the legal profession, and it's possible to make a living as a lawyer through sheer ignorant belligerence, I don't know

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

We need you to bring the effort post comrade, I want to see that shit go Lemmy-viral

[-] Digital_man@lemmy.one 26 points 7 months ago

Musk sounds exactly like a person with unlimited privilege, where (in their head) they are never wrong.

I get that musk hates lawyers, but you'd think he'd have enough money to hire one familiar with Texas law, especially since Tesla is based there

Very interesting considering how he's protecting pebble yeet. Also is it just me or does he only care because some might be feds.
