With shorts, yes. I don't really watch shorts tho. Their suggestions for horizontal videos are mostly news, cars, robots, and woodworking.
Mine is standup comedy, quick videos on how to use modern weapons, quick videos on how to use medieval weapons, FPS gamers doing crazy moves, and those guys who make love action shorts about video games.
My advice is stop giving thumbs up to the softcore porn.
The funny part is that sometimes I play this little game to see how many videos it takes to fully pornify my home page and it doesn't work if you want it to be like that.
Doesn't happen to me on YT but on Facebook with suggested pages but only for a brief while....
I haven't actively used Facebook since I was in high school, and recently scrolling through my feed it's not even softcore it's straight up p*rn!
I keep hiding these posts & they don't stop appearing... I wish I could tell Facebook I'm not a perpetually online horny teenager anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They are tracking you even in incognito with a VPN and even across services. People have been using these types of tools for a very long time and porn sites have been tracking people all the while. Basically your devices have enough unique attributes accessible through JavaScript API like make model, screen resolution, bluetooth radio capabilities like ble, connection speed, etc. Basically brute force every data point available in the API and use the results to build a profile to recognize you. Tools like https://modernizr.com/ while not exactly intended for this still make it easier.
How is one supposed to prevent an API from doing this?
Air gap yourself or you can disable JavaScript. But who does that haha. Albeit many browsers allow you to disable JavaScript these days, it's not a great experience. I will say that it's hard to monetize these types of profiles because they are somewhat ephemeral and not always accurate. But they are good enough to use to increase engagement on a admin dashboard so that's what happens. Also there is some considerations to be made in terms of how similar people could potentially buy similar devices and use them in similar ways producing similar profiles. Decisions are made by analysing engagement metrics without any awareness of the behavior that drives them. I think this is what might have led to what Google is pushing as the new model for tracking users instead of cookies. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federated_Learning_of_Cohorts
Yup
I was spammed with those when shorts started. It took forever but I finally don't have those suggested anymore. As someone else posted, once creators I follow started doing shorts, those appeared as suggestions and took over the feed.
Mine is video games, guitar playthroughs, and fragments of bands I listen to performing live
Mine is like 50% vids from people I mildly dislike and 50% Vtubers. I think there is really just not very much good short content.
Edit: To clarify, I'm not anti-Vtuber, I'm just not convinced that a 30 second clip from a livestream counts as good short content. The only high quality shorts channels I'm aware of are Tom Bates (who produces Nigel and Marmalade, a series about a tiny wizard and his dog-horse best friend) and Natural Habitat Shorts (funny animations about anthro animals, based on real animal facts).
My facebook reels are worse than that - endless girls shaken their boobs and ass at me. Most of them look extremely fake and enhanced with AI to make everything bigger. Often there will be a split second scene in the clip (too short to be caught by the censorship system?) of something pornographic. Seems like most of the girls have an Onlyfans.
I don't watch porn or browse thirst traps on instagram or anything. It's nuts.
IT'S NOT CORN! IT'S CALLED A THIRST TRAP I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW, UNEDUCATED PIG!
</ sarcasm> (just to be sure)
