Scientists: we can’t understand why global warming is so much worse than our models predicted!!

Who could have expected the evildoers lying?? 😁

[-] BruceTwarzen@kbin.social 78 points 7 months ago

So who and how many go to jail now? I guess around 0

[-] SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml 25 points 7 months ago

Nah, there'll be like a junior VP or department head paid to take the fall, and the people that actually signed off will wipe their hands and feign ignorance.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 13 points 7 months ago

Best I can do is an executive position in a foreign fossil fuel company.

"Oops." - The people killing our world and won't face any real consequences.

[-] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 48 points 7 months ago

Welp better stop eating beans and farting for the rest of my life to help do my part and recoup the damages. All this world destroying pollution is my fault as a consumer, not the producers.

[-] Synthuir@lemmy.ml 29 points 7 months ago

Waiting on BP to bravely introduce the concept of an ass-gas footprint

[-] tetris11@lemmy.ml 12 points 7 months ago

"Do your part. Wear a gas-collector."

The producers produce so the consumers can consume, why are we passing blame back and forth when both parties are to blame for this?

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

If the producers don't produce, the consumers can't consume.

But if the consumers don't consume then the producers can still produce.

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Why would they produce if there is no demand?

It's an easy way to hand wave away pollution.

[-] Coreidan@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Because they know that if they lie to you and market the right way they can fool you into buying it. Just look at cigarettes.

Or better yet look at plastic. We need to stop producing plastic. As a consumer unless I literally grow my own food I don’t have any choice but to buy plastic. Literally everything is sold and packaged in plastic. The producers took the system hostage and I don’t have much of a choice as a consumer other then die.

[-] rautapekoni@sopuli.xyz 1 points 7 months ago

Dying sounds kind of nice though, not going to lie.

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Producers create the demand for their product. It's called marketing.

[-] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz 27 points 7 months ago

"Well this is highly surprising!", said exactly nobody.

Honestly this should have been expected. It's baffling that self-reported numbers are taken at face value

Hahaha, you're so funny. The emission scandal was about NOx, that's mostly air pollution and it wasn't just VW, it was basically any car manufacturer that sold cars with diesel engines.

[-] Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 7 months ago

Why are you pressed about this? 😭

[-] Alsjemenou@lemy.nl 1 points 7 months ago

Their mom is a volkswagen

They have already done us. And it's the same for alle the gas/oil fields. We need to plug a million holes at this point.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.de 13 points 7 months ago

But... They said that Coal is very clean? Don't they know that lying is bad?

[-] onion@feddit.de 21 points 7 months ago

No, actually they (the conservative party) were blabbing about "jobs" while letting the solar industry die

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.de 2 points 7 months ago

That as well
