Paradox really fell off wtf

Also they add like, zero worthwhile features for the price? Does every paradox game now have EUIV's DLC policy? It seems like they're really trying to rope people into their shitty DLC subscriptions.

Frankly, out of the Vicky 3 DLCs that are out, none of them are really necessary. Unless you want more flavor for France and/or Brazil. One of the DLCs is literally just cosmetic. In simple terms, I wouldn't recommend any of the DLCs unless you play a ton of Vicky and specifically want to play multiple runs as France and Brazil.

The only dlc that is gonna be really interesting is the upcoming Spheres of Influnece expansion. How impactful or good it will be remains to be seen though.

EDIT. There are paradox games where you need multiple dlcs. Vicky 3 is not one of them ATM. Just play it with some mods and you are good to go.

Which begs the question: why are they so expensive if they add nothing?? Really silly business model.

because sometimes they can put new and important features behind a dlc paywall, like adding the entire system of intelligence agencies behind a dlc paywall for a game about the second world war :))))))

I think they're obligation DLCs made at low cost to fulfill the deluxe edition promise of "3 free DLCs" or whatever. They did the same with CK3.

From a production standpoint it probably makes sense to have some smaller DLCs just after release because most of the team needs to work on patching large release issues.

As for the price, it's just greed.

It took a while, but we are all definitely feeling the effects of Paradox going public. Fuck everything about who they’ve become. I remember getting The Old Gods for CK2 on release for $15 and that was a complete reworking of the game essentially. Now $15 gets you some portraits and maybe some minor mechanics for a country you’ll never play.

ck3 still feels really boring and underdeveloped however many years into its lifespan now, it's so cooked

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to Vicky 2? That was my first Paradox game.

It’s good, but definitely pirate it. Paradox has become incredibly scummy. I didn’t mind their model when the additions where actually cool and had depth, now they just release unfinished games and expect us to buy the dlc to actually get what it should have released with. CK3 is particularly egregious on this front.

i still prefer victoria 2 but victoria 3 is more functional and modern. it's definitely not worth its price tag you better shiver your timbers.

The thing I always like about the later generations of Paradox games is how accessible the modding community is. There was a bit of a hassle when trying to install mods to Victoria 2 vs later using the workshop for EU4.

interestingly if you go the unofficial route older games will be much easier to mod rather than newer games. most mod files are locked behind workshops and if the developer is not providing another alternative they would be hard to get, although vic 2 is a different case since its stability with mods is atrocious on my system.
