Exciting! Another technology we can wait on while we continue to burn fossil fuels like before!

And when we have it, we'll keep on burning more because we can store the excess emissions now!

Hell yeah! Awesome idea!

The material is made up of hollow cage-like molecules that have high storage capabilities for greenhouse gases

Its chicken wire wrapped around the atmosphere :D

Here's a link to actual Nature Synthesis article instead of the nothing-burger Sky News article: https://www.nature.com/articles/s44160-024-00531-7

We found that crystalline [4[2+3]+6]cage has a CO2 uptake capacity of 3.98 mmol g−1 at 1 bar and 273 K (Fig. 7b and Supplementary Fig. 30). This CO2 uptake is high compared with other porous organic crystalline materials, such as covalent organic frameworks55, at comparable temperatures and pressures, and is one of the highest CO2 uptakes reported to date for a porous organic cage (Supplementary Table 6)56,57.

Seems interesting, but still very preliminary. Would be interesting to see if this could be scaled up to compete with simpler methods like the lime/quicklime/limestone cycle.
