What kind of math is this?

[-] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 18 points 5 months ago

They are using marketing costs to count for the loss, but not including those numbers as they are separate from budget.

[-] Norgur@fedia.io 6 points 5 months ago

An here I thought I could subtract numbers, seems like I was wrong because 254.9-200=-131 apparently

[-] Visstix@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

They have an extended calculation on the site. Marketing and stuff isn't included in the budget I think.

Say what you want about Walt Disney as a person, he truly loved telling great stories.

But the people in charge now have no idea what actual creativity looks like.

I do wonder how good of a statistic box office is nowadays with all the streaming services available.

A lot of people I know just don't bother with the cinema anymore.

[-] Blaze@lemm.ee 13 points 5 months ago

Superheroes fatigue definitely kicking in.

The editor's choice to not include apple movies because it's a 'tech company' is bizarre, and really makes me doubt the article's integrity and motives

[-] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 7 points 5 months ago

Apple is weird.

They released 'The Aerialists' in theaters for a hot minute, then moved it to their service.

I'm not an accountant, but anyone can see there are a lot of shenanigans going on with Hollywood book keeping.

That said, I only saw 'The Flash' on DVD from my library and "indy ...' because it was on a streaming service about six months after it opened.

None of these movies is popular.

Haunted Mansion: why not release it for Halloween?

[-] GlitterInfection@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

I don't know what a movie about product placement has to do with Halloween.

I watched Flash, because somehow I thought it was already the DCEU Reboot. It was shit. Ezra Miller is so annoying in it (and, hearing the stories, everywhere esse in life...). The batman scenes were the only fun parts in that movie.

In the original comic, the Flash meets Dr. Thomas Wayne. Bruce was killed in the alley, and the father becomes Batman. He builds a casino to get access to the underworld and uses Hourman's super soldier formula in place of actually training. I was hoping for that story, not just "exactly the same person, but looks completely different."

[-] TheImpressiveX@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 months ago

Spoilers for "Flashpoint" comicI thought it was only Bruce that got killed in the alley, and Martha became Joker?

[-] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 2 points 5 months ago

I stand corrected.

[-] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah so I watched the flash and...surprisingly after the intro scene I...didnt hate it?

I know the main actor has become a meme IRL but his character was the same as the few shows i caught on tv...so....on point?

I don't know, I'm actually in the mind set that the other DCU fils were such piles of steaming bloody shitfarts to suffer through this one was mildly more enjoyable. Like, having stomach cramps vs being kicked in the balls.

[-] Jagermo@feddit.de 1 points 5 months ago

I somehow thought it was already a James Gun movie and expected something like The Suicide Squad - which was one of the best DCEU movies, imho

[-] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 1 points 5 months ago

Oh yeah, that was good! I keep forgetting it was DC, lol

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 7 points 5 months ago

Sad to see Disney celebrating their 100th birthday with Wish, it was quite disappointing.

[-] simple@lemm.ee 13 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I can't get over how they announced it with a paint-like artstyle and then the later trailers trashed the idea and it looked like another generic Disney movie. I hope their movies keep bombing until they realize people are tired of it.

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 4 points 5 months ago

Same feeling. I hope too, and it seems like they are on track

[-] morphballganon@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Oh yeah, The Marvels. I meant to see that but forgot. Not many reminders on Lemmy I guess.

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

It's actually quite good. Just a fun time with Iman Vellani running away with the movie in every scene she's in. Completely forgettable villian though and Captain Marvel is the most boring character in her own movie (although Brie Larson does her best to make her likable).

[-] vaquedoso@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

We really need to set up those niche communities here in Lemmy like they have on the other place. I really need one here for dimension20's and dropout's content

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 2 points 5 months ago

!marvelstudios@lemmy.world is there for current Marvel content such as X-Men 97

[-] ChocoboRocket@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Watching movies at home is infinitely superior. You can talk, pause, rewatch a scene, go to the bathroom, have your own snacks, better seats, home TV's are pretty great these days, and sound bars/headphones are also close enough(better?) than theaters.

I'd prefer not to torrent as I already have streaming services, but if companies are going to put out content that is generally mediocre, with lowest common denominator formulas and then make it hard to watch? then yeah, I'll Torrent.

I don't mind owning physical copies of media I really like, but that is also becoming less and less common.

That being said, Dial of Destiny was actually pretty enjoyable! Better than the average movie I'd say, and I watched it on a plane, so not exactly the best viewing environment

I take it you've never been to IMAX or Dolby Cinema?

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 months ago

I take it you don't know our home setups?

All that Dolby Digital means nothing when you got people talking over it.

[-] Tujio@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

I've got thin walls. Watched Dune I at home, had to constantly grab the remote to turn the volume way up/down for the entire run of the movie. Went to see Dune II in Imax and got my face pleasantly blown off by the sound system.
