Makes me wish JFK was on a coin.

edit: I'm fucking stupid, you guys.

[-] ImInLoveWithLife@lemm.ee 25 points 6 months ago

You're in luck! The Kennedy half dollar, minted since 1964.

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Up until about 3 years ago I had always that it was JFK on the dime. Turns out the dime is Roosevelt or something.

At least it's not the side of his head the bullet exited from.

Cents since 1982 are mostly zinc with a thin shell of bronze. They'll rot badly if compromised with a hole.

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 14 points 6 months ago

I've never seen/heard anyone refer to them as cents referring to the physical coin rather than the value and calling the coin a penny

[-] aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

If you want to be pedantic, the use of cents in that way is incorrect.

[-] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

But it makes so much sense!

~~Could always use a nickel, they're a nickel copper alloy IIRC which should be more resilient.~~

Edit: I'm dumb, older nickels don't have a date on them. Quarters or dimes should work though.

Really hope the couple is two tall lanky bearded guys.

[-] TheWolfOfSouthEnd@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 6 months ago

You could really confuse a British coin from 1952 to 2022 and really confuse people….

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 months ago

And historically accurate

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 5 points 6 months ago

Shouldn't the other penny behind the front one be rotated a bit prior to punching so you can actually see the minted year without having to pull up the front penny?

It'll look a bit janky but at least it'll follow the intent of the post.

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago

I'm guessing, it won't be offset like that most of the time...? I mean, it is theoretically possible, if that hole isn't round, which is hard to tell from this picture, but that just seems rather inconvenient for a key chain.

My country got rid of the penny 😔

[-] westyvw@lemm.ee 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I am not a fan of emojis in online conversation, but this time it does change how I perceived what you wrote. You are not happy about this? I would be so pleased if my country got rid of the penny.

[-] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 months ago

But... but how will I convey my emotions through the medium of the interwebs? 🤔😯

Add a nickel for the year you had triplets.

[-] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 months ago

Here I was thinking this was another security question scam.

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Pretty sure that's a federal offence.

[-] ch00f@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

Nope. Destroying currency in a manner that does not constitute fraud is not illegal in America.

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

Oh, I meant putting a hole in Abe Lincoln's head.
