There goes RiF, so there goes me. Almost 12 years of Reddit, gone.

PSA: You can use browser scripts to securely delete your posts and comments. Don't gift Reddit your content. Force search engines to scrub dead Reddit links from their results.

i kinda doubt that there will be hordes joining Lemmy. Most who cares already migrated

Looking for a new home from Reddit; glad to be among friends!

[-] digdilem@feddit.uk 0 points 1 year ago

Yep! I have a reminder in my calendar: "Delete reddit user". 11 years of contributions gone. Already deleted all posts and comments, but kept the user back so that if anyone's keeping score, it counts.

I just used PowerDeleteSuite to overwrite and delete my messages. I've also been using reddit for about 11 years. It feels sad in a way, like I'm losing a friend. The communities could be really great sometimes, and it'll take a while for the fediverse to truly catch up in terms of growth and features. I left my account active so I don't lose my saved posts but it might as well be dead, the app is garbage and the site is dying.

Big ol fuck spez. Sync just closed down. I'm done with Reddit.

Relay will still work for now. The developer stated they will be doing a subscription model soon. It's odd how they were able to do this but not Apollo.

Is this the most upvotes a Lemmy post has received??

[-] TheVampireSaga@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

on world at least the top is 2.7k

[-] Shardikprime@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

We've been deceived for years with post upvotes artificially inflated and then we get surprised at the end of the dopamine crash with posts in a more normal range

I didn't think infinity would be finite but tomorrow we'll reach the end of Infinity for sure

Reddit was RiF for me. I don't like Tildes so can't follow TalkLittle to his new app. What's everyone using for Lemmy? Jerboa started crashing with the latest updates, so I'm trying Connect for Lemmy. It's ok. Would like to give a few other apps a crack too.

[-] embrcrndm@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

What's his new app called? I wanna try out Tildes too

Highly recommend purging / editing your comments before you go. I used PowerDeleteSuite for my main and alt accounts and it worked really well. If you've got thousands of comments and heaps of data it'll take ages, but it's an important step, leave them with nothing they can monetize

Or you could just post something positive about JK Rowling and reddit will delete everything for you!

Fellow RIFugee here moving in to the Fediverse. After 8 years, the moment I opened RIF and could no longer refresh my feed, it felt like the end of a chapter of my life. With every ending comes with new beginnings, so here's to Lemmy and the Fediverse!

[-] Arotrios@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

One more day until Reddit Isn't Fun... :(

It's been a good run, but without RiF the site is worthless.

That being said, it paves the way for the Fediverse to grow, so rather than celebrating the end of an era, I'm enjoying the birth of a new one.

Even as somebody who has never used, and will likely never need Apollo, I am really grateful for what he did. However unintentionally, I think he ripped the mask off how rotten the management structure was. It's one thing to sell ads and collect hidden metadata. Pretty much all the apps do it. But the whole way Reddit treated him was beyond despicable.

Excited for Lemmy.

Reddit was it was good while it lasted, but it was just a container for online communities. The AP protocol is superior to a centralized model in every way.

Onwards you beautiful nerds!
