Pro-Palestine student protesters and University of Wisconsin-Madison administration reached an agreement to end the Library Mall encampment Thursday in exchange for facilitating discussions into disclosure and investment principles with decision makers at the UW Foundation (WFAA).

So sounds like they folded for nothing? This is meaningless word slop

Jesus, another one. We promise to talk about discussing scheduling a meeting to take your concerns seriously in the future.

Thats the rhythm of these things. Minor protest triggers knee jerk violent response, which triggers mass widespread protests and more knee jerk violence. It seems like it'll cycle out of control but then "cooler heads" prevail. Exact same as 2020

Maxim 68: Negotiating from a position of strength does not mean you shouldn’t also negotiate from a position near the exits.

We need to teach folks that negotiating in good faith is all well and good, as long as you're negotiating with a gun held to your enemy's head.

I agree. I posted it before properly reading/thinking. So lame I was going to delete it. But decided to let it linger in case it would be useful to someone to think about before falling off the page and into obscurity.

if I understood the linked PDF properly, the univeristy's "obligations" such as they exist are voided if there is any further protest. Great way to have the activists discipline each other and sow divisions.

Would be better suited to the dunk tank.

this and that other school that ended their encampment on a promise for a divestment vote in like November or whatever are exactly why you don't let liberals lead your protest movements. It's fucking embarrassing

Do not lift your siege until their ransom is in your treasury.

Vae Victis! said Brennvs to the Romans.

That one hurt to see, given the fight Madison was putting up. I kept looking at the statement and thinking, "is that it?"

Tod Pritchard, UW Foundation spokesperson, previously told WPR the foundation will “not take directives on how to invest donor money from any parties outside of our board.”

Sounds like there should be direct action against them.

In all this divestment talk like nobody talks about how fucked up it is that these schools are invested in Israel to begin with?? it's a fucking school, the only thing it should be invested in is its students' educations

how embarrassing, it's just like the 2008 collective bargaining protest for which they got nothing

[-] Beetle_O_Rourke@hexbear.net 12 points 4 months ago

No object permanence

[-] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 11 points 4 months ago

It’s so much easier for the schools to “accept” the terms of the protests and just wait till they graduate

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 8 points 4 months ago

I already know it’s gonna end like this for each campus. But god damn. Someone needs to kill at least one defense executive at the end of this if it’s going to be pointless anyway.
