This site should be avoided. The owner got caught abusing their mod powers on lemmy because they didn't know the mod log was public. So they deleted their account.
if true yeeesh
this is one of the features I like about our system in that it incentivizes good behaviour,
- and for those that likes to fuck around well they get to find out
It's true. Check the mod logs and his own mastodon account
which this, the one linked to or the one the community is on?
The gamingonlinux website.
Do you have some more details? That site had some notorious spammers on Reddit's /r/linux_gaming too, allegedly by other people (several beerNUMBER accounts and a couple others) and he was constantly being apologetic that it was of course out of his power of what other people submit, but it felt more like making excuses. I am still not convinced that it wasn't his alt accounts. If I look at their frontpage now I see neither any of those accounts, nor "articles" from that site (which is more of a shitty blog imo), and it seems his account is gone too, which really just reaffirms my suspicion. There were like 3-5 links to his site just on the first page alone each day.
I don't know anything about what you're mentioning. They just deleted some messages and put "annoying" as the reason and when they were called out for it they deleted their account on lemmy.ml
That sucks! But even with a publisher, surely it would have had trouble in a market where Dwarf Fortress exists? How is it compared to that?
I wish more companies would do something like this, rather than just shutting everything down and leaving everyone with nothing.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
King under the Mountain from developer Rocket Jump Technology, a simulation-based settlement-building strategy game, that was going through a big upgrade and re-brand with Mountaincore ended up shutting down and being open sourced.
You see King under the Mountain was picked up by a unnamed publisher, who helped finance a big upgrade to the game.
As the developer said "They were worried that a number of similar games that have released in the time between would cause it to struggle to stand out.
That didn't go well either, as the developer posted on Steam back in January, with the release being so small they didn't pull in enough revenue to "keep even a single dev employed working on the game".
In this case though, it's somewhat a happy ending, and probably one of the best endings you can hope for, as the original game King under the Mountain was made fully open source under the MIT license.
Real shame this, as no one wants to see a developer have to shut due to low sales, but in this case it's also partly because the publisher backed-out after making them go silent on it for so long.
The original article contains 336 words, the summary contains 195 words. Saved 42%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

Could someone adapt it to Android and release on Fdroid
