Man, I love the guy's expression when he realizes he has zero excuse and was totally screwed.
I like the judge with the "WTF is this actually happening?" expression. I do have to give him some kudos, I'm not sure I could have held back from saying something snarky like "are you really this stupid?" That's probably why I'm not a judge, lol.
My wife watches that judge - judge Simpson - regularly. He actually seems like a really good guy who wants to give people a chance, but he does not put up with shit at all. Any sort of blatant disregard for the law or disrespect for the court during the proceedings and the person is going to have a bad time.
Tosses pen in disbelief
Whoa, so he lost his license, then got caught for driving without license and for that case he dialed to court while driving without license. And not just that, but he also did a video call while driving which likely is also not allowed.
Dude, if he was still driving without a license at least should stop get out and pretend to walk during the call.
What are they going to do? Take his license?
Put him in jail, that's basically what the judge ruled.
Well they stripped him of his bond and now he's going to jail...
They could prohibit him from being the registered owner of a motor vehicle. That way whoever is the registered owner can be charged for letting an unlicensed driver take the wheel. That should also come with the threat of loss of ownership privileges.
There needs to be a sub for these type of court streams. I remember a few years ago some guy being charged with something like violating a restraining order and he took the call from the the girlfriends house he wasn’t supposed to be at
Edit: here it is
Update:
"'They were supposed to have been lifted it two years ago, but they didn't,' Harris said.
Secretary of State records show Harris' license was first suspended in 2010 for unpaid child support in Saginaw County.
Then in 2022, court records show that a judge rescinded that suspension, allowing Harris to drive again. But it appears that information never got to the Secretary of State where even as of Thursday afternoon, Harris' license is still listed as suspended — the same records police and the judge were going by."
Oh my god the twist
Look at how quick everyone was to pass judgement on the guy even though this wasn't his fault. Just as bad as Reddit, straight mob justice mentality, pitchforks and all
Except it turns out that's all bullshit, he didn't ever have a license. Follow-up with the judge was today. And the kicker is that he has a warrant for his arrest for a driving violation from another county, so he went to jail.
Update from today. He never had a valid driver's license. My wife just played me the whole session from today. Some interesting items:
- His suspension wasn't lifted, not because of a clerical error, but because he didn't pay it.
- The suspension was irrelevant anyway because he never had a driver's license. With the suspension, if he had gone in and taken the test to get a license, it would have immediately been suspended and he couldn't drive, but that's moot because he didn't have a license.
- When the cops pulled him over, they asked if he had a license and he said no.
- It turns out that he has a warrant out for his arrest for a driving violation in another county, so they took him to jail.
All the crap he said about being innocent was just lies.
Man, what a fucking rollercoaster! Thanks for the followup!
Now I get it!
We are living in a simulation and (unfortunately) this is the QA branch. At least this would explain the given case (and other things).
There really is no other explanation for this.
stop posting fox "news" links. if it's a valid article, find a different source.
This is a fox affiliate, it's associated with a separate broadcast organization under the Fox umbrella. Fox affiliates have much different reporting standards than Fox News and linking a fox affiliate is functionally the same as linking any other local tv source
This is extremely dangerous for our democracy?
That line was broadcasted from some Fox affiliates with the autonomy of the stations' owner, Sinclair, which also broadcasted that line through stations with non-Fox affiliations.
Oh, well. Democracy is saved!
So there should be no issue finding a source thats not Fox and doesnt support the same umbrella that protects Fox News proper.
Sounds like you are supporting their business though, regardless of their veracity they are part of an awful disgusting fascist propagandist network.
This guy is the new Surprised Pikachu Face. Seriously, watch the video, he's next level stupid lol
As funny as it is, I also feel bad for the guy. This illustrates perfectly why we need a good public transport, to prevent people who don't have what it takes to drive off the road, while not preventing them from visiting their doctors.
Ubers exist. Not ideal, but sure as fuck cheaper than what this chap is going to have to pay now.
Uber is a pirate taxi that relies on exploiting 'drivers.'
I’m aware of what it is. This idiot in the video whoever apparently isn’t. Or he doesn’t care.
Taxi, till his license is given back? you cannot feel bad for this idiot. No license, no driving...it is simple logic
He's an idiot, true, and shouldn't drive at least until a fair assessment says otherwise. I was saying that there should be a better, less costly, and safe transportation for people who can't or don't want to drive to get around.
Totally. the USA is bad for transit, except in major city centers.
Legal system uses zoom?
It started with covid. I guess some courts still offer it
A lot of attorneys pushed for it to continue because it cuts down on travel particularly to rural areas. It’s helpful in civil litigation because it cuts down on travel fees to clients.
It’s helpful in criminal and family law cases because those dockets often run long and people may have to wait hours to be seen. Being able to work or run errands while waiting for your case to be called makes the process less intrusive.
You can’t help people like the defendant in the video though.
Are you questioning video conference for court, or the fact it is Zoom and not a better encryption setup like Cisco Cisco Webex?
The second.
Yeah, I would have assumed a higher end system too, even a proprietary "for court" desktop application and phone client.
I heard they found a vulnerability in one such proprietary software recently.. So I guess proprietary doesn't mean secure either ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, Software be software LOL. I guess I meant zoom wasn't true end to end encryption, zoom had the keys. where as other programa were e2e
