The impact of an engorged Russia would unfurl over decades, touching every corner

all politics is sexual pathology

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 62 points 5 months ago

Pretend i made a joke about "The Slav" courting "Europa" and used the word "Nubile" because i started writing it out and even as eye rolling mockery of European sexual pathology it felt gross to write.

[-] someone@hexbear.net 56 points 5 months ago

It gets even grosser when one realizes that from roughly 1995 to 2005, Ukraine was the world's main source of CSAM material. A largely unfiltered internet, desperate poverty, and corrupt law enforcement made for the ideal dark conditions for CSAM rings to sell photos and videos to westerners with a preference for Caucasian kids.

[-] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 53 points 5 months ago

Wow it sure is a good thing they were liberated from communism

[-] SpanishSpaceAgency@hexbear.net 17 points 5 months ago

Also with the context that searches for "Ukrainian" on porn sites surged as soon as refugees (of course mostly women) from the war arrived in other European countries.

Wasn’t Epstein active around Eastern Europe immediately after the fall of the USSR?

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 3 points 5 months ago

He was global, so I wouldn’t doubt it.

Resources of Ukraine? Pre war 3rd poorest country in Europe? Hmmm. Could it maybe be... not poor but overexploited?

Ukraine’s deindustrialization since the fall of communism is incredible.

In 1992 Ukraine was the industrial powerhouse of the USSR, with manufacturing holding a 45% share of GDP. By 2022 that share declined to just 8%, with Ukraine transformed into an outpost of American agri-business. One whose only remaining industrial policies were to sell off what was left of state enterprises while praying to become the cheap place for Western tech to outsource.

Insert Eric Andre killing Hannibal meme

USA (eric) shooting Ukraine (Hannibal)

"Why did communism do this?"

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I always find it funny when Ukrainian nationalists point out how Soviet Ukraine did this and that, how it was powerful, how its people were engaged in important battles in WWII, how they had plenty of industry. Of course they were. They think they’re bragging and owning you, but that’s only the case if you think USSR = Russia and not a multi ethnic country. Really it’s more of a self own because it reveals how much the country flourished under le ebil commie dictatorship and how much it suffers under freedom capitalism.

3rd poorest country in Europe, "Breadbasket of the world" thonk

[-] RiotDoll@hexbear.net 38 points 5 months ago

Before the invasion they did account for some huge % of the world's grain supply though? Like I know the idea of "bread basket" is loaded w/ imagery of a post ww2 agrarian boom or something, but in this case it just means "Ukraine used to be where a lot of cheap food came from" but it turns out it's kinda hard to maintain strategic resource production when you're a war target and strategic needs dictate turning arable land into minefields or w/e

[-] Sephitard9001@hexbear.net 41 points 5 months ago

But that's exactly my point. You're right, but that's why I tacked it on the Parenti post. How could Ukraine be the breadbasket of the world but still suffer from poverty to that extent? Their exploitation is obvious but it's the exploitation liberals are blind to.

If losing this war would be catastrophic, why did you start it???

peppino-why

[-] Adkml@hexbear.net 57 points 5 months ago

It's seriously hilarious to see them saying "a lot ofnpeople say we should concede but that would be bad for ukraine"

Hey dummy, what other option do you have. It's a child's argument. Losing would be bad and we dont like bad so we're not going to lose.

[-] PosadistInevitablity@hexbear.net 43 points 5 months ago

“Our only option is to double down and make losing even more catastrophic.”

[-] Staines@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago

The RAND Corporation study that was used as the template for America's war in Ukraine specifically outlines the scenario where Russia reindustralises and wins. The conclusion is: this is unlikely, but would be catastrophic.

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 23 points 5 months ago

Working for war think tanks has to be so fun. You get to play board games and call it productive work, get paid $100k to role play, and then the DM turns in a report of the game to the president

[-] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 1 points 5 months ago

You ever read a job description and think "wow, kinda wish I was a total piece of shit now"

[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 19 points 5 months ago

I remember this study but I'm having trouble finding it, any chance you have a link?

[-] GinAndJuche@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago

Seconding the request for any help finding it.

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 45 points 5 months ago

wow if Ukraine & Russia's powers combined are enough to blanket the world in a Slav Age, one shudders to imagine what would've happened if also Belarus, baltic states, the caucausus, & transoxiana were too? surely the torch of liberal democracy would have been snuffed out!

[-] jackmarxist@hexbear.net 33 points 5 months ago

Ukraine has lost even if they somehow win over Russia militarily. The best case scenario for Ukrainians is to flee to western countries and atleast enjoy a somewhat Stabler life.

[-] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 16 points 5 months ago

better go real far west, as of right now all the countries in Europe are deporting Ukrainians back to become conscripted or are in the process of doing so. Better to have fled east.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Do you have any source of the actual deportations? Thing was talked about for months now, but afaik nothing real happened in any country, not even Poland wants to agree on that (that sweet social dumping is hard to give up and for example land transport and most likely construction business would collapse overnight if Ukrainians disappeared).

[-] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 5 points 5 months ago

Many nations have stopped consular services and diplomatic services, and have stop renewing visas. So Ukrainians are forced to return to Ukraine

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Didn't Ukraine just did it unilaterally by refusing its citizens abroad consular services? What makes them leave is not that they don't have visas, but that their passports aren't getting prolonged. Furthermore, several EU countries already declared that they can stay even without valid passport.

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 26 points 5 months ago

But russia wants demilitarized ukraine, they don't want to waste money on lands they are not welcome and which has been sold and resold for 30 years of amortization tax breaks cri

[-] Amoxtli@thelemmy.club 21 points 5 months ago

The Telegraph makes it seem Ukraine is an amazing country.
