Actually a pretty good representation of depression and anxiety medication

[-] Iceblade02@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago

This immediately reminded me of Adventures with Anxiety, a browser game about living with Anxiety.

It's very well done, and simultaneously funny & serious.

Thanks, that was really useful

He still doesn't look happy

[-] Lotarion@lemmy.world 75 points 4 months ago

Pills don't magically make people constantly happy. But without them it's barely possible to be happy in the moment

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

For me, they made me feel nothing even when I should feel something. My heart goes out to anyone going through this.

[-] something_random_tho@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago

I'm not sure if you've tried this but just in case, ask your doctor to try other types of antidepressants which might not have the same effect. One pill might totally numb you but another might leave the highs alone.

I hope you and anyone else reading this can find something that works for you!

[-] Soup@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago

He still needs time to catch his breath. It’s like how getting a single good night’s sleep doesn’t leave you fully rested but it’s still important to do.

The first few steps aren’t “get better” but rather “stop feeling worse”.

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 26 points 4 months ago

Antidepressants aren't a silver bullet for mental health, they only bring you closer to your (healthy) baseline. The most difficult barrier to a healthy change for mental health is our obligation to waged work, and in some cases are the cause of poor mental health.

[-] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Well, it is a black dog. Keeping it at bay is often the best we can do.

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 8 points 4 months ago

He doesn't habebthe direct pain of being chewed on, but the beast lingers there waiting for the pills to wear off.

Of course they aren't happy.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Hey, someone other than me constantly hits b instead of space too. Nice.

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 2 points 4 months ago

Phone keyboards suuuuck.

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 6 points 4 months ago

I think that's the point.

[-] HN82@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

That's because it's a pill and not a joint, perhaps.

[-] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

Because the cure is illegal.

[-] MxM111@lemmy.world -5 points 4 months ago

That’s because he killed death with pills, apparently, and now he became death himself, as it can be noticed by black clothes in last panel. And it is hard and ungrateful work to be a death. Why would he be happy?

[-] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The comic is about depression, not death.

He doesn't look happy because the medication doesn't magically cure him.

All they do is temporarily quench the longing to die. At least sometimes. The other times they just help you to fall asleep before you fall apart.

[-] MxM111@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Ok, thank you for explanation, but I on purpose came up with alternative explanation making a joke.

[-] mossy_@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

fake, the doctor didn't tell him the dog was all in his head

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 19 points 4 months ago

To be fair, mental illness is all in your head. Because head broken.

[-] mossy_@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Depression or whatever doesn't mean you're broken per se, but yeah. In a perfect world your doctor would be able to acknowledge that the brain controls the body.

[-] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 22 points 4 months ago

Dude just train your dog not to bite.

[-] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 35 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

What the fuck is a metaphor?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's for metaing these nuts

I love that Google is so absolutely trash now that when you Google "What is a meta for?" it just assumes you're a moron and refuses to even consider the possibility of throwing up a blog of dad jokes that includes that exact line.

This joke exists, Google, I know it does. You will not be spared.

Edit: DDG got me

What's a meta for?

Nothin! What's a meta for you?

This is apparently a Christian joke that I do not understand, that or a meta joke about another set up about "What is a meta," but DDG found it, dammit.

[-] CluckN@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

My little velvet hippo pippo doesn’t bite, it consumes.

[-] Zehzin@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago

He had to sell his jacket to afford the doctor's appointment 😞

[-] tooclose104@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 months ago

He's still wearing it when he feeds the pupper his night night yums, which would be after the appointment and after picking up the prescription.

[-] z00s@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Fuck this is way too real

[-] MidnightBanjo@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 months ago

For me meds halp me feel in control again. I still get sad, mad, etc, but it feels like they are for valid reasons rather than just ‘because’.

Could be that now the beast is tamed, he is stressed because of problems the beast helped cause

[-] errer@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Saitama and overgrown rover?

[-] Melt@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

[-] Xirup@yiffit.net 2 points 4 months ago

Great song btw.
