don't bother reading this if you don't care about Elden Ring lore because you would just be wasting your time

Elden Ring's first DLC will be released this month. I'm excited to play it.

But at the same time I feel it is gonna be the last one.

For me this is a bit regrettable. But not because I want a Marvel-like endless supply of content. It seems like the DLC is gonna be about the founding of the Erdtree era. But I am significantly more interested in whatever ends up happening with Godwyn. In the base game, his influence was extremely far reaching in breadth but not in depth. His posthumous existence implies serious ramifications but they are not addressed in the base game.

I am really interested in more background for Miquella and Marika but not at the cost of Godwyn.

unrelated rant

I couldn't get into Elden ring and it kinda makes me sad. Like the open world feels so empty in most places and the enemies are copy paste. And I kept a journal to remember quests/characters, but I'm still missing stuff. How isn't there a in-game journal?? Why am I limited in map markers. I had this huge list of removed and gripes before I quit and just googled all the lore questions I had.

reject modernity, return to DS1 tail cuts

roughly a month after the game came out someone on r/eldenring posted a thread titled something like "what do you not like about the game?" I made a comment saying kinda the same thing as you: I thought making it open world was a mistake because now there are just large areas filled with nothing particularly interesting, tons of duplicate enemies (and bosses!) and due to the nature of its open world it's super easy to miss important NPCs, sometimes permanently because you unknowingly triggered something on the other side of the map. The last time I checked my comment had like over 70 downvotes with a ton of people replying with some variation of the extremely tired "git gud" (even though I've beaten literally every other souls game solo; Fromsoft fans who base their personality around "I good at hard game" are some of the most insufferable people in this hobby).

The parts of the game I really liked were the legacy dungeons. I thought to myself "I wish this game was just entirely legacy dungeons instead of this open world stuff" and after a while I realized I was just describing their older games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Sekiro.

Idk what point I'm even trying to make here other than you are not alone in being a bit disappointed in the game. I still don't understand all the "this is the best game From has ever made" praise because I think their older games, while not having as much content, easily outclass it in focused design. I hope their next project isn't open world but seeing as how they just announced the game sold over 25 million copies I'm guessing it probably will be ๐Ÿ˜‘. Also I just realized this thread is 10 days old but I'm gonna post this anyway

Oh jesus, here's hoping it's at least an MMO then, so it won't be so barren. I almost posted my gripes list after the game dropped to the subreddit, but after a quick scroll I realized there was a non-zero chance I'd get stalkers if I did. The git gud mentality is so annoying and telling, like none of the games are especially hard! They're frustrating (mostly DS2) and some of the mechanics are outdated and have been dropped from more modern games for good reason (looking at you, soul loss), but their difficulty is so overrated.

Hard agree on the Legacy dungeons, I actually had fun in those before having to trudge through the repeated content and reused bosses (there are only like six uniques, right???) ad nauseam.

I enjoyed Elden Ring so much, I'll take what I can get at this point.

This is true

I feel this being the only DLC is just a result of them moving on to Armored core in between. Product-wise, it makes no sense for them to commit another year and a half or two for a second DLC rather than work on Elden ring 2 or whatever is their next soulslike is.
