I had to attach a piece of plastic 1 inch thick to a shoe sole to make it 1 inch taller. Why is not relevant.

After using this frankenshoe for 2 months I no longer need it, but the shoe sole is sticky.

I used isopropyl alcohol to rub it and removed a bit of junk, but part of the surface is still sticky. I applied more isopropyl and let it act for an hour. Still sticky.

What works for you?

Hey friend I'm a cobbler that does those kind of lifts all the time. I use a contact cement that is removed with acetone but acetone along with isopropyl alcohol can melt the material that some soles are made from so be careful. Aside from that practicing your moonwalk on the pavement outside with them on will help plenty with the stickiness if it's just the adhesive on there that's the problem

Search for "Hexamethyldisiloxane adhesive remover". It's designed for removing ostomy bags but it will remove pretty much any gummy sticky glue from anything with very little effort.

Goo gone works wonders

I’ve heard WD40 works on some glue residues. Couldn’t hurt to try it.

"couldn't hurt" is a weird turn of phrase for the suggestion of "lubricate the soles of your shoes" 🙃

Yeah WD 40 is great for adhesive removal. I used it all the time on materials that can't stand up to acetone or harder solvents. Just wash with IPA or dish soap after so you don't have slippery shoes.

If you have superglue on your hands/skin cooking oil works quite well. Maybe it works on tour sole as well?
