PSN account needed to play Palword incoming

[-] shininghero@pawb.social 72 points 2 years ago

...This is not a publishing deal for Palworld the video game, or an acquisition by Sony, rather an attempt to make the most of the game’s huge popularity with non-video game products, such as merchandise and music...

Looks like we're safe from any forced PSN account requirements. For now...

PSN account required to wear Palworld merch incoming

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Gotta get PSN account before buying your lovander body pillow

[-] Delusional@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

We noticed that you're trying to put on a licensed Sony hat, please sign on first.

[-] shininghero@pawb.social 78 points 2 years ago

Players (suspicious): "So what is it you're doing here, Sony?"

Sony: "Merchandizing."

Players: "Merchandizing? What's that?"

Sony: "Merchandizing! Come, I'll show you. Open up this door."

Sony: "Come, take a look! We've got the game's logo on everything. Merchandizing, merchandizing... Where the real money from the game is made."

Sony: "Palworld the t-shirt! Palworld the cell phone case! Palworld the laptop stickers! *Palworld, the flamethrower!"

Fwooosh!

Sony: "The kids love it."

Sony: "And lastly..."
Gestures to a life-size Lovander doll
Sony: "Palworld the mega-doll! Pose it however you want! Stand it dramatically in a window! Lay it in bed and use it as a pillow!"

Sony (smugly): "But we know what you're really going to use it for. You naughty little hand-holder, you."

Spaceballs is a timeless classic.

[-] ninjabard@lemmy.world 49 points 2 years ago

Sony really just wanted their own Pokèmon, huh?

[-] Rayspekt@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

Compliments ~~Splatoon~~ Foamstars nicely lol

[-] arefx@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Seriously though is there anything like splatoon for pc?

[-] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 years ago

These guys won the lottery and I'm excited for them.

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Tell that to Hello Games.

[-] Renacles@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

I thought this meant they were getting bought out but it seems like a deal for selling merch and other products.

We should be fine.

Not Craftopia players, that's for sure.

Now the lawsuit from Nintendo will come...

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

How many Pokemon rip-offs are there out there? Nintendo doesn't own the idea of enslaving cutesy critters to fight for your entertainment.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 years ago

The fact that they haven't issued lawsuits already makes it more difficult to start them now.

[-] kindenough@kbin.earth 4 points 2 years ago

They go after small youtubers to get a few pennies, whale eating tiny krill. They are very likely salivating about a cut of the meat from Palworld, they would have sued in a heartbeat if they could.

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

I'm not playing palworld if it requires a PSN account.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

I think the Palworld devs got the hint, as many other devs did.

[-] OsaErisXero@kbin.run 1 points 2 years ago

Unfortunately, their opinion no longer counts for much

[-] Xanis@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Guys! Guuuuys! I found someone who didn't read the article! We are going to make so much money selling the wagons this time!

[-] OsaErisXero@kbin.run 6 points 2 years ago

I didn't, but I knew it was so far just a merch deal from the comments. I just don't think that's where this ends, and Sony does not have a reputation for being subtle in getting what it wants.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Fair enough!

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I know it's merch. Why would you think they'd stop there?

[-] Xanis@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Because they have been stopped there. It's up to those folks behind Palworld to not sign contracts or accept certain promises.

[-] 3aqn5k6ryk@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Signing a deal with the devil.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Not gonna lie, I missed the pokemon craze as a kid. Like yeah it was there but I never really got into it.

That said, I'd be down to get some kind of Palworld merch like a plush or something.
