Evidently screwing customers twice by making them watch ads for the same price they used to get ad-free has been profitable. Let the enshitification continue!

In other news, their ad sales VP left this week for some reason.

They've lost my business altogether, and I had been a member since the mailed DVD days.

Plus the content they produce is nearly shovelware.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

It was so exciting getting those red envelopes in the mail…

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 3 points 2 months ago

They really screwed themselves over long term with so many cancellations. Would've been better to give shows something like a 2 episode mini season to wrap stuff up.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Same man, but here's the crappy thing, they don't give a fuck, because overall revenue is up, and fewer customers means fewer operating costs.

[-] manualoverride@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

I did my part. As soon as they started messing around with making me log in and provide security codes every month for TVs on different networks, I cancelled.

If you make your paid product more inconvenient than piracy, I’m gonna set sail.

[-] NightOwl@lemmy.one 4 points 2 months ago

Sailing is so much better than managing when to stop and continue payment for the dozens of streaming services.

[-] illi@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

Streaming was great because it was easy relatively customer friendly. Though those days are behind me but it sure looks like I need to dust off the ol' sails.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I'll give you the best three word combination you'll ever hear before you set sail: Stremio, real-debrid, Torrentio. Look it up and be free, my child. Be free!

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

not to mention having to remember which app has which shows/movies at any given time.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

None of that for me, they're all on Stremio!

My Netflix subscription ran from 2002 through May 2023. They might be making more, but it's not coming from my wallet.

Update: Netflix also dropping lowest cost ad-free plan. They reeeaaaally want you to pay for ads.

Short term gain for long term loss

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I hope you are right, but I think you are wrong. There is a long history now of people tolerating ads for services they like.

[-] sunzu@kbin.run 5 points 2 months ago

Well as long as people watch the ads and pay for the service, why would they stop

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Exactly. The masses are huge pushovers, and the corporations have figured that out. Things will continue getting worse indefinitely. They literally must continue getting worse for companies to continue increasing their revenue in a saturated market. There's total dominance now, so they can't grow by gaining more customers. They must grow by offering less for more money.

[-] sunzu@kbin.run 2 points 2 months ago

a nation of bootlickers....

[-] illi@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

I shudder to think what they come up with next when the line won't sufficiently go up

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Ads that play even when your TV is off! Oh, and app tracking that blasts an ad about a business from your phone speaker when you walk past the business.

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

also due to them raising prices and getting rid of the cheapest ad-free plan.

but gotta pay for terrible wwe programming somehow, i guess.
