Anyone else have the issue when using jerboa that when they try to change input language (by holding the space button) the selection menu just flashes up and then disappears?

Somewhat annoying.

Never had it on AOSP keyboard and please don't use gboard.

What's the deal with gboard? To be honest I've never used anything other than the default that comes with the phone.

Privacy. Sorry but I'm into that so I always tell people when I have the smallest opportunity.

That's fine and a very valid reason. Thank you for letting me know. Does your recommendation support swipe typing?

One of the most popular alternative keyboards (HeliBoard) supports it and it actually uses the Google's implementation so the quality should be good but you have to install the swipe functionality manually and idk if it's offline. There are other options like FUTO which even have fully local voice recognition.

Awesome. Thanks for the info

You're always welcome to the rabbit hole. It's so fun to watch everyone going in and never going out :)

Well then watch out for the fatigue. That's the only thing I'm allowed to say.

Are there foss keyboards which support something like Gboard handwriting mode? I find it very useful for my language, Malayalam(we have about 60 letters).

Nah I think it's too hard to develop ethically and run locally.

Aah. Their handwriting mode works when I'm offline too.

That's interesting. Well I guess open-source handwriting models aren't that advanced yet.

AnySoftKeyboard is a great alternative

comes with swipe

Says it can't be installed on newer versions of Android, on that link. Does it have its own repo with new versions in?

looks like the fDroid version is the latest https://github.com/AnySoftKeyboard/AnySoftKeyboard/releases

from their mastodon

All available language packs were released to production last week, and it seems we do not see any issues. This is version 5.0.28.

This release includes support for Android 13+ and various Play Store guidelines.

Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
