Hi All.

I bought It Takes Two through Steam a while ago but only got around to installing it recently. I now realise it uses EA's launcher which is a big piece of shit. Add is some issues linking my EA account to my Steam account and I'm done with it.

It's been a while since I pirated any games, it used to just involve a key gen or copying a few modified files into the right directories.

These days I see whole 'repacks' from fit girls and skid rows.

Is there anything I can do with the game I've already downloaded or do I need to download a repack from someone?

Thanks In Advance.

I do miss the days when you could just download a keygen and get something licensed. Nowadays most keygens are just virus/malware installation packages unfortunately, with a few exceptions. To be honest it's probably easier and safer to just use one of the repacks from a trusted source since they are 'precracked' and that work has been done for you.

Cracking my legitimate copy of StarCraft just so I could play the game without the CD was how I started my piracy adventure.

Something interesting I discovered about StarCraft back in Highschool, all CDs can be bypassed with a CD Key of all 3s. Like just 3333333333333333333333

About to go buy a StarCraft CD just so I can try this because that’s hilarious.

Report back with your findings because if it's not then my friends and i had 3 very unique Starcraft CDs

Worked. fucking great. My uncle had a disc and I tried it at his place. 10/10

Huzzah! Now how do we spread the news?

You can try using an origin emulator to crack/bypass EA's launcher. Here is one on cs.rin.ru that you can use https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=115335. It should work by replacing files from your game with ones from the emulator and filling out any required info in the config file if any. Hope it works for you and saves you from downloading a whole repack. Let me know if there are any issues and I can try to help if I can

Well, you'd need to find a crack separate from a repack because they aren't in a format that lets you grab the data you need.

Also worth considering that your crack needs to match the game version in most cases. Updates to binary files are likely to make older crack versions incompatible. I tend to just download the repack and add the repack exe to Steam to make everything integrate well and to avoid automatic updates breaking the game.

Does Steam still detect achievements by doing it that way?

[-] dorumon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I think it depends on the game because I've cracked games and still had their achievements work for steam.

Good to know. Thanks

First of all, such a cool game to play with my son! You absolutely need to try "A way out" by the same devs as well.

I´d just get a repack if I were you. Much easier. Makes no difference.

The easiest thing to do is download and install a repack, but there is some comfort in knowing you're using the original game files. I remove the DRM on all the games I keep on my drive and most of those are from legitimate sources. I've jumped through a few hoops to manually remove DRM before.

It's not like days of old were you only needed to replace the game's exe file. You have to look at the protection on each game to see what needs to be done. I'm not familiar with that particular game so I don't know what kind of DRM it uses, but you should be able to find out with some searching.

There's no set procedure in removing DRM manually, games can vary quite a bit. Some Steam games have several layers of DRM, such as the Steam client, then 3rd party protection, then in-house protection. On the other hand, some Steam games use only the Steam client where all you need is an emulator.

Sometimes there is an easy way to manually remove DRM, sometimes there is not. You may or may not need a Steam emulator which removes the need for the Steam client to be running. Then you may or may not need a crack exe. Sometimes you can find those crack exe files stand-alone on gamecopyworld. Another place you can find stand-alone crack exe files is on cs.rin.ru. You may even need to download a whole pirate copy of a game to extract the crack exe out of it. Worst case the game uses some kind of hard DRM like Denuvo that requires multiple cracked files if the game is even cracked at all.
