Hello comrades and welcome to the second improvement megathread of August! bonfire

As usual, some discussion ideas:

  • Do you want to share something you've done in the previous week or month? Everything counts, nothing is too small.
  • Do you have any plans or goals for the following week?
  • Do you have any streaks? For example, "sober for one day." Feel free to post your streak every day in this thread.
  • If you don't have a continuous streak, did you manage to abstain from something for a day or more?
  • Did you come across some useful information or resource that might help others?

Poster caption: "(we) Will get a rich harvest from a virgin land!"

Good luck with your goals! rainbow-has

I remain sober, despite a few tough days. That's all I got. A few months now. Woo

What I've been doing:

I have been continuing to read math textbooks, albeit at a slower pace than in the preceding weeks.

I have started two Lateχ projects. One is meant to be a compilation of definitions and theorems that I come across in math textbooks and other works, and the other is meant to be a critique of Marx' writing from the standpoints of texts' ambiguity and lack of clarity.

I am still taking a bit of a break from active job-searching in order to avoid burnout. I intend on resuming job-searching this week.

I have started my attempt to go over Marx' works on 'Critique of the Political Economy', both the three tomes of Capital and the work that preceded it. Doing this on my own, this time.

I have resumed physical exercise.

I have been studying particular hanzi, including how to write them. I did not have a convenient way of studying how to write them, which hindered my ability to remember and distinguish them later. Since my last attempt, Duolingo has introduced relevant features, which is rather helpful. I have been learning to write them by hand, practising with at least 5 characters every day.

Plans for this week:

Keep re-learning math stuff. I nominate topology and graph theory as my subjects to focus on this week.

I nominate php and OS as software-related topics to focus on this week.

Remake the Blender model's head using a different technique.

Resume attempts to regain employment.

Keep up with the physical exercise. Engage in it at least once this week.

Streaks:

Still touching grass every day.

Duolingo Putonghua 28-day streak after a couple of years of pause.

Resources for others:

I can be your resource if you have math questions. I can also find you actual math resources and textbooks.

I'm still just hacking away on computer. Writing code and game development remains my two primary goals on the computer. programming-communism

I'm reading, I'm cooking, and I'm trying my darnedest to keep the lesser self at bay. I'm trying to choose to be my best self in every instance I can. I don't have "wins" this week, but I certainly don't have any loses.

We are all gonna make it. unity

Started the past week much like the previous week. Wasn't going to the gym. And with all the rain around here I didn't even walk all that much. Also felt like I slipped just a bit with my diet and was eating more junk food than in the previous month.

About mid week I got myself recalibrated. I thought about all the progress I've made with weight loss and thought of what I want to do moving forward. So after reading some stuff and watching a few YouTube videos I decided that I want to get more athletic and I'm going to try and settle into more of a workout routine than I had previously. The next thing is trying to fine tune my diet so that I can hit my goal of how I want to look.

Aside from that been thinking of how to manage my stress better just because the past few weeks have been a lot for me. Already talked with my crush/friend to try and clear up a few things that have been botheringnme and it actually worked out great. Got a few other things going on at home and work that are giving me a bit more trouble and I'm hoping to resolve in the next few days.

Walked 4 days, not very long, but still touched grass etc. Pulled one or two all-nighters but managed to almost rein it in by now, and 3 hours late is way better than 11 hours late. Still can't focus on reading because my brain is steeped in anxiety.

I have been shidding out my doodoo ass for several days now. I am miserable. I have no idea what's wrong but I'm really hoping my symptoms improve soon. No other updates besides more of the same

Self Improvement

259 readers
2 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
