It sounds like there are some top people who worked on it who have left. It seems uncertain whether it's going to be the real deal or just branding. But it is exciting. It sounds like their other IP is still with Microsoft too, not that it matters much.
pubg's monetization is pretty gross, not sure what went wrong with calypso protocol or whatever but i've not been impressed with kraffon. maybe the subnautica people are doing better?
