The question is whether this is an actual increase in Linux users or if so many Computers didn’t work that the total number sank

Or the stats are just bad. There is a lot of volatility in those numbers.

Also, crowd strike predominately affected enterprises, which aren't going to pivot to Linux in a month, it would be a many year long plan and rollout.

ur right, but crowdstrikes consequencs did also negatively affectes lots regular peoples, and aslo is hell of bad press for them an microsoft

What Linux needs is an AI assistant that you can ask to run Windows programs for you

so far literally everything has been better for me. I upgraded my system to all AMD a while ago with the intent of eventually making the jump and it's been super seamless. all the games I want work way better than they ever did on windows, even weird little windows indie games through lutris run better than native windows. I also put pop on my old MacBook and really breathed some new life into that thing. I think I have firmly drank Kool aid lol

yippee!! im stuck w a nvdia 1060 so i cant use the gpu on my lappytop :< (for varius reasons) so am def buying amd next time i buy anything

I wish there was the same but for the individual distributions

u can see distros thru the steam hw survey meowmeow!

[-] Korne127@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks. I already knew that though, that's the only way I found any information on the share of individual distribution. And while I think it's a better measurement than e.g. the view page of sites on a website (which is sometimes used), it still creates a bias (even ignoring the SteamDecks) and it only contains few top distributions. So I wish there would be a more neutral and detailed way to see such statistics, although I'm glad the Steam HW survey exists as it's the only reasonable information I currently have.

How do they even get those numbers? I'm sure there are no trackers in all GNU/Linux distros. I'm sure there are in Winblows, but not my GNU!

is by aggregate browser agent data which includes os by default
