oh neat, we mainstream now

not related because I don't listen to hour long podcast episodes, but I've been thinking for ages how someone like MKBHD hosting their own Mastodon instance could really solidify the Fediverse's presence. I bet a big chunk of his audience would be willing to spend a dollar in order to get an @mkbhd.com or @matteblack.com or @24fps.com or whatever handle, too.

Perhaps. But then moderation costs etc enter into it. But to host himself and friends/employees absolutely. Unlike X they'd have complete control.

Podcasts are a last bastion of mainstream web freedom.

They're great to pop in some earbuds and listen to while you're cooking, cleaning or driving. I also put them on while going to bed cuz they don't keep me up like videos or socials.

yes, I'm well aware of that, but it still doesn't change the fact that I just don't listen to them - especially when an episode is an hour long.

Have you tried listening to them at 1.5 or 2x speed?

Much easier to listen to.

Many podcast apps also have a "skip silences" feature.

I don't use it, but I know others find utility in it.

Are there any that have a skip annoying laughter feature (/s)

Seriously tho that sort of thing seems like it would mess with the use of pauses for narrative effect

seems like it would mess with the use of pauses for narrative effect

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't use the feature :)

I think many of them are adjustable in terms of how aggressive they are at cutting out silences.

yes I have. it's just not my thing, thank you very much.

Next step, publish on peertube.

[-] einlander@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

All the big content creators should be also hosting their videos on their own peertube instance. This lets them have direct metrics and info to plan new content for and to show advisors.

Definite. I wonder wow do they'll monetise it though.

I couldn't watch past the Federation/Fediverse discussion. You can have several words for the same thing. There is no such thing as a "real word" so long as it fits the language. Language is a living evolving thing. And I watched and by that point they didn't even get into how it works and explained everything but.
