Howdy maties, what seedbox providers do you use and what should be avoided when looking for one?

I want to get rid of my vps and get a dedicated seedbox, they seem to come nowadays with one click installs and the sorts, a vpn would be nice to have if needed, what do you look for when choosing a provider?

feralhosting.com gives you a full unix user in your own little jail if that's your thing. They are for seedboxes, but you can do anything you want with your 1 vcore and unmetered 10gbps.

seedit4.me & rapidseedbox.com are both "reputable" enough in the space that you can't go wrong.

I've used seedit4.me before, but they're really expensive if you want any meaningful amount of storage on them.

Not rapidseedbox. I used them before and one time it removed my download saying DMCA violation. I unsub and change to fully self host my own seedbox on a dedicated machine with one provider.

Sorry mate and all waiting for a show and some solid proofs. That happened in the second half of 2010s, and I do mailbox cleanup every year. I tried dig through what left but I think that violation notice is gone forever. Back then I was just a noob and though that's normal for such big name provider, so I consider bad luck, and switch.

I'm just surprised they honoured the DMCA. It's a seedbox lmao what were they thinking???

Are recommendations against the rules?

[-] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Rules

  1. Posts must be related to the discussion of digital piracy
  2. Don't request invites, trade, sell, or self-promote
  3. Don't request or link to specific pirated titles, including DMs
  4. Don't submit low-quality posts, be entitled, or harass others

No it's not and they're really easy to find plus there's 4 simple rules

They don't seem to be, so ultra, gigarapid, whatbox etc. There's plenty of lists online and on Reddit if you'd like to try something else

I had seedboxes.cc for a while. They were great, but a bit expensive. If I could do it over, I'd probably get ultra.cc. Currently, I'm looking at torbox.app, but they're not exactly a seedbox.

[-] spencer@beehaw.org 3 points 2 months ago

just switched to ultra, can recommend

ultra.cc seems to have some good packages, will try this one, thank you

Depends a lot what you're looking for in a seedbox. If you want to race then a lot of the options given are great. Personally I want storage capacity above most things and grabbed a dedicated server from Hetzner auctions. Today you'd be looking at 40TB gross storage for €60 a month. Been a long time since I've looked at setup options, swizzin was hot stuff then to give more of a "seedbox experience"

What's the appeal of seedbox over using VPN? You can get a lot more storage with the money you spend on seedbox, right?

[-] zagaberoo@beehaw.org 1 points 2 months ago

What reputable VPNs these days offer port forwarding? That's a big part of what keeps me on a seedbox.

[-] matcha_addict@lemy.lol 2 points 2 months ago

I thought protonVPN does, does it not?

[-] FMFM@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

It sure does

[-] Duckling5746@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

I've been happily using AirVPN. They let you have a static port. I tried ProtonVPN before and the dynamic port that is provided was way more frustrating to deal with
