Lol. I'm pretty sure my local police have their inbox set to auto delete all driving complaints.

Angry driving can make one quite blunt

Enough to rage over a mundane stunt

At bicyclists abreast

a roar rose in his chest

SINGLE FILE YOU TWO-WHEELED CUN--

Skeleton Warriors!

When I go for a bike ride with my SO we always ride side by side on streets that have a posted limit at or below 40kmh.

We usually only ride side by side on residential streets. Occasionally we get someone driving too close to us when passing or shouting out their windows saying single file in the same way.

Its like going for a walk, we would not walk in a single file, neither would we sit in a car in single file.

That's technically illegal here, but I mostly only see cops violating it. I think the larger cycling groups go for rural roads.

Not a single one of you thought to consider why the hell an official letter from the police would write verbatim expletive quotes in the style of a tumblr teenager instead of simply writing that there was a verbal altercation. Complete lack of critical thinking or a total suspension of disbelief.

[-] mondoman712@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Or the fact that it doesn't need to be real because 1. It's still funny and 2. We all know that the incident has happened somewhere, because shit like this happens so often.

taking up more road by riding two abreast may appear to take up more road space

These coppas are genuises, and yes I paraphrased it rather than quoting the stupidity.

Two cyclists nose to tail with a small gap ends up meaning that the car behind has to overtake the effective length of a truck to pass them both. Two cyclists riding abreat means they only need to overtake a car length

If there's enough lateral space to do it in.

When I was a child we didn't have bike lanes, and biking to school was always an interesting endeavor. Thus I will always take off a bit of speed and give cyclists a good bit of space. But if there's two or more bikes side by side, then they can take up enough road that you can't pass them without crossing entirely into the other lane. And then they're just a big pain as slow moving tractors and other farm equipment, except they're even more annoying because they could just go single file.

Cyclists going side by side are inconsiderate assholes and this comes from a guy who bikes to work daily.

[-] ephemeral_gibbon@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

That's often the point of riding two abreast. If you are riding one at a time and on the edge of the lane then cars will often try and overtake you without leaving the lane, or at least a minimal amount. That leads to very dangerous close passes.

If you ride side by side or in the middle of the lane if alone, then generally the times you get passed by cars are much safer as if going fully into the other lane already they tend to give you enough space.

This would depend on the drivers in your area, but with the shitty Sydney drivers I learnt quickly to hold the lane unless it was a safe place for them to pass.

Also, because traffic is a thing it's very rare that I don't end up right behind whatever car passed me at the next traffic light, safer passes don't really cost much time for the driver once traffic is accounted for

[-] xfc@lemdro.id 1 points 2 months ago

But you should just go into the other lane. Treat them as you would a car or a tractor as you say

[-] tetris11@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

"which one is bigger?"
"that one."
"no actually, they're both equal volume."
"that's not what you asked."

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

“lateral road space” then?

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

You're not coming off as clever as you imagine.

[-] Cypher@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Okay jerkface

How are some cyclist comfortable with driving side by side? I was always anxious when that happened, can't swifel out and nothing and if you fall because of that, the others fall too.

[-] DrFuggles@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

I mean, they're probably not touching handlebars when riding side by side.

[-] Slovene@feddit.nl 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, cause touching handlebars would be gay.

C1: Yeah. Somebody call the whambulance, some cyclists are butthurt about being cussed out lol

C2: lol what a bunch of pussies. Anyway, fid you remember to wear your bulletproof vest today?

C1: Every day brother. Now let's see how many drivers we can fuck with before one tries to run us over.

Jeremy Vine is in Nottinghamshire?

[-] Isoprenoid@programming.dev 5 points 2 months ago

OOTL:

Jeremy Vine

On August 2016, a car driver threatened and was abusive to Vine while he was cycling along Hornton Street in Kensington, London. Vine captured the encounter on his helmet camera, later broadcasting it on YouTube where it was viewed several million times. Vine also reported it to the police. On 18 April 2017, the car driver was jailed for nine months for threatening behaviour. At the time of the incident, she was subject to a suspended sentence for various other offences.

Here's the video, it contains road rage so don't watch it if you have high blood pressure.

[-] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 3 points 2 months ago

I think something happened as well with a lorry driver and losing his job. Petrolheads hate vine lol

This community exists for the following reasons:

You can find the Matrix chat room for this community here.

Rules

  1. Be nice to each other. Being aggressive or inflammatory towards other users will get you banned. Name calling or obvious trolling falls under that. Hate cars, hate the system, but not people. While some drivers definitely deserve some hate, most of them didn't choose car-centric life out of free will.

  2. No bigotry or hate. Racism, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, chauvinism, fat-shaming, body-shaming, stigmatization of people experiencing homeless or substance users, etc. are not tolerated. Don't use slurs. You can laugh at someone's fragile masculinity without associating it with their body. The correlation between car-culture and body weight is not an excuse for fat-shaming.

  3. Stay on-topic. Submissions should be on-topic to the externalities of car culture in urban development and communities globally. Posting about alternatives to cars and car culture is fine. Don't post literal car fucking.

  4. No traffic violence. Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.

  5. No reposts. Before sharing, check if your post isn't a repost. Reposts that add something new are fine. Reposts that are sharing content from somewhere else are fine too.

  6. No misinformation. Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.

  7. No harassment. Posts that (may) cause harassment, dogpiling or brigading, intentionally or not, will be removed. Please do not post screenshots containing uncensored usernames. Actual harassment, dogpiling or brigading is a bannable offence.

Please report posts and comments that violate our rules.
