Think you'll find the vast majority of trump supporters will disagree.

Yup. People really underestimate how far they are willing to take shit. We are talking about the group that didn't want to admit covid was real, and didn't want to take the vaccine, so they compromised and took horse medication that was causing them to shit out the lining of their intestines.

Denying the weather will be easy for them

Oh. Unfortunately, yes. Yes they still can. This author needs to just start asking around haha

The last words ever uttered by a human being will be some climate change denying bullshit

[-] keeb420@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago

They will anyway.

Let's just go to Heritage.org...published just yesterday:

Well, there’s weather and there’s climate change, and climate change is measured over very long periods of time, so a hot summer does not necessarily mean there’s climate change. And there are all kinds of other issues coming up with how we measure it, how the oceans affect global temperatures, how the clouds affect temperatures, how the sun affects temperatures, and climate change has been going on for millennia. I certainly don’t think that we’re headed towards a catastrophe, and if we are facing warming of 1.52 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, the question is what to do about it.

Is that an acknowledgement of the climate crisis? No, it is not.

I like how this headline just pretends that delusion and willful ignorance don't exist.

The stubbornness of stupidity is impervious to facts, no matter how obvious the facts are. This won't change anything in the minds of the people who already don't think it's real.

Lobsters also probably love the tan they get, and how nicely relaxed their muscles feel while they’re at their hot tub.

After this summer, no one can deny our climate crisis

The Vox advisor uses the floods in Greece to question climate change. Camino Limia believes that apocalyptic predictions are made just so that some people make money

[-] inspxtr@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

“no one” is a big challenge … the ones who are on the fence could be reasoned with, and then we have those who are extremely stubborn who cannot change until it affects them directly. And those who use denial to gain power will likely continue to do so …

[-] Jimbo@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago

Oh I've seen people deny it when it affects them directly

My coworker sees snow once a year and says: see, climate change is bullshit.

Yeah i guess. 20 years ago i used to go to school on skis. Now it snows once im two years.

[-] inspxtr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Right, there are those too. I guess the point is, “no one” is practically impossible. Complete public perception of climate change should not be the ultimate goal, it’s just not realistic.

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
