I am the developer of that scanner's software. There is a known bug, where the scanner says "€" instead of "cm" when little objects come near it.
I definitely heard about this from reliable independent sources

And yes I keep a barcode on it so I can keep inventory of the goods.
I shave my pubes to form a QR code that links to my most recent STD checkup.
