Israel has accused Hezbollah of keeping hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold in a bunker under a hospital in the southern suburbs of Beirut, though it said it would not strike the complex.

The Sahel hospital in Dahiyeh was evacuated shortly afterwards, and Fadi Alame, its director, told Reuters that the allegations were untrue.

Israel did not provide evidence for its claim that cash was being kept under the hospital. Instead, it published an animated graphic that purported to show a bunker under the hospital and said it had previously been used to hide the former secretary general of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah.

Another Al Shifa. Magazines next to MRI machine. Terrorists calendar.
We know all the tricks.

I'm scary. What will happen after the US elections?
Full invasion? Next Gaza?

[-] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 45 points 1 month ago

I'd be nervous if I was a worker or patient in that hospital right now...

There is a word for it when it was deliberate done by someone to instill this... What was it again...

Oh yeah.

Terrorism!

[-] jonne@infosec.pub 33 points 1 month ago

That's why they evacuated it, they know Israel would bomb it. They've targeted hospitals and abundances in Lebanon before (and Gaza as well, of course).

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 38 points 1 month ago

What a strange thing to announce. Everything Israel says is a lie, but even still, so what if Hezbollah does store it there? I don’t understand why anyone is supposed to care how or where Hezbollah might store cash & gold on their own lands.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago

Israelis don't believe it is their land. That's the rub

[-] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 month ago

The goal is not really to kill civilians or even to harm Hezbollah. The goal is to destroy vital services to further destabilize the country.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 33 points 1 month ago

I legit had to check whether this was The Onion. This is such an absurd thing to announce it seems like a parody of their actions.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 30 points 1 month ago

Israel is known for lying about hospitals.

Is this what the 1930s were like?

[-] pivot_root@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

More or less, minus the CGI.

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

Reminds me of Gliwice provocation, also with the level of idiocy and/or nazism required to believe it.

[-] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago

Yes. Except now it is even more incredible since how the FUCK are they getting away with it! Back then fact checking was much harder and it was much easier to bullshit. Now we have access to unprecedented information and fact checkers and still the same old fucktard tactics work.

There isn't even a cool off period with this. There was a time not too long ago where they would spout some bullshit that would later turn out to be obvious bullshit... and they would wait several years for people to forget before doing it again. But over here they just turned the entire thing into a ritual where they expect us to fall in line and believe it even they know we know it is shit.

Airstrikes began about an hour later, with strong explosions heard across the Beirut area. One of the strikes hit just in front of the entrance of the Rafik Hariri university hospital, the largest public hospital in Lebanon. At least four people including a child were killed and 24 injured in the strike, and the hospital suffered “major damage” from the blast.

The initial casualty count was expected to rise as first responders continued digging through the rubble for people. A picture of the building struck in front of Rafik Hairi hospital showed a man covered in blood lying lifeless in a bombed-out building.

Israel won't stop targeting hospitals

[-] pivot_root@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago

What's next, schools? Oh, wait. Well, surely not public infra—nevermind. At least kids are safe? No? All right then.

[-] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 month ago

This is Israel's setup for bombing a damn hospital. Not that they've ever cared about needing an excuse, before.

Wasn't there that Gazan hospital that they occupied and destroyed and claimed it was legitimate target, because they found box cutters and binoculars? Tools that were totally used by Hamas soldiers hiding under the Hospital..

[-] chillBurner@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 month ago

You know how the saying goes

"you run into a jerk, that jerk is likely the jerk. Run into many jerks, and you might just be the jerk"

[-] SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago

I always heard it as:

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

An animated graphic as evidence to strike a hospital... Where have I heard that before... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pTYHBZVgVQ

[-] anachronist@midwest.social 15 points 1 month ago

Fun fact: Shifa hospital had tunnels under it because Israel built them when they occupied Gaza.

[-] HorseRabbit@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 month ago

Can't believe Hamas had a red barrel room.

[-] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

I mean isn't that where and how explosives are stored? Especially the ones that just blow on impact? Even if military explosives are specifically formulated NOT to explode from small arms fire?

Israel appealed to the Lebanese government to confiscate the money

Has the Lebanese government responded to any of these claims? I haven't heard much from the government itself. I've just been assuming they might as well be innocent bystanders praying "oh god not again".
