But why would that be a bad thing? 🙁

[-] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

You do good work and we’re glad to have you. If no one’s being a stickler about quality, then the data decay would just get worse.

I appreciate you.

[-] gofsckyourself@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I try to be less of a stickler and more of an advocate by providing the higher quality version instead of just complaining.

[-] pressanykeynow@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Providing instead of complaining, now that's something new.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I'm only learning who you are through context of THIS conversation. How have I never seen you before?

[-] gofsckyourself@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Should you even expect to know who I am? It's not like I'm a celebrity or contribute to the same level as The Picard Maneuver et al.

[-] sag@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Not a bad thing. I love your work.

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 year ago

Why thanks. I'll change the post to this image.

I'm now very curious about what it was like before.

As a teen I used to go snowmobiling in the winter with my friends late at night. At the time in the 90s it was boring and it got to the point where dozens of other teens would join us in a giant parade of snowmachines outside of town. There was always a small clique of older teens that led the way and we all followed them. It was fun, it was dangerous and it was something to do.

I remember being in the top fourth or fifth machine in a group one night and I didn't want to ride any more. I turned off because none of it was being done with any rules or anything, people could come and go as they pleased. As soon as I turned off, all 20 machines behind me followed me home, parked at my place and asked me if there was something going on tonight. I told them I was just going home and went inside and left them alone.

That was one of the points in my life that made me realize that people just follow whoever is in front of them without ever really realizing why.

[-] pressanykeynow@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Maybe they too just wanted to go to your home.

[-] adhocfungus@midwest.social 17 points 1 year ago

Every time people ask me where the architecture is heading I think, "How should I know? I just graduated; someone above me will figure that out." Then I realize it's been almost 20 years and I am actually expected to know how databases work and I am one of the most senior in the department. I feel like this goose a lot.

[-] pressanykeynow@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's horrible to realise it's you who are the adult now. But explains why the world is shit.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

So what you guys are saying is that the world is being led around by people who don't really know what they are doing?

[-] superkret@feddit.org 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, and that's true for all world leaders and big corporation's CEOs as well.
I find this much more likely, and much more scary, than the conspiracy theories.

[-] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The good people admit that. The bad people don't. And the Dunning-Kruger people will confidently tell you they do know what they are doing.

Stop that! I'm not Senior, just old!

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

This is very much how I feel in leadership

[-] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I wish I was in that position. I never want to hear "good code is its own documentation" ever again.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe put something in the documentation that says "If you tell me good code is it's own documentation, I will lose my temper and slit your throat. And if you wear a pink baseball cap to work, the next day I'll give you a donut."

And then you get work only with people who read your documentation.

You know......on account of how you murdered the others!

Ah management.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
