Figured would toss these on here as I'm both lazy and a disaster, but here you go (these are ancient history fwiw, when I was 9). Shouldn't have any triggering/sad shit (didn't screenshot, basically) but may as well share 9 year old me's glorious basedness:

Wow they really did not like how much you liked pandas china

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 28 points 1 week ago

TBF I was probably about as obnoxious with it as I can be about anything, but indeed. Panda persecution is so real cri

[-] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

9 year old "demonstrates immature behaviour" and "likes pandas"

American teachers: wojak-nooo

Unqualified dumb fucks lmao

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Pretty much, honestly all Anglo teachers are the same

[-] SuperNovaCouchGuy2@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

just that shared sort of insanity where they expect the literal children under their care to behave like fully formed adults in an environment that is hostile for development (any schooling system derived from the prussian one)

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Pretty much :/

"Oi let me give you some facts about pandas, kid - no complaining and don't make me pull out my rubber knife on you like last time.

We're gonna learn about the recent evolution of the panda's pseudo-opposable digit thumb today..."

I'm just imagining an irrepressible thug of a grade schooler who pounces on other students when they are away from other people to mug them of their time and attention while giving them panda facts and threatening to pull out their "knife" if the other kid isn't compliant.

This is just a joke obviously but now it is headcanon for me.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Awesome :D I wish I was that cool, I was just really always excited when they came up. And I brought my stuffed panda around with me everywhere then ~~(regrettably the friend did not live till adulthood or for much longer, "died" sometime between the two documents this is involved in- family was a fuck~~).

I was absolutely a irrepressible thug (in a "do not poke goblin" sense, not a bully/etc sense) of a grade schooler, though.

[-] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

x also spoke in a very pedantic way with very poor language pragmatics from a social perspective.

She just like me fr

[-] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I'm sorry to hear about your panda friend :(

Thanks for the condolences Care-Comrade . They've gone to the plushy heaven now...

And indeed, irrepressible :>

Oh wow, they gave you assessments? Nice! I barely avoided being put into the "R-Word Kids" class.

The 80's were so cool!

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Damn omori-miserable was the early 2000s for me, but yeah, was assessments.

That you're here shows how messed they all were though. They were missing up on some peak basedness or potential and maybe inclination for it

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Sis, you got no idea how messed up it was. How good you were at masking was the defining characteristic that determined if you were gonna be in the "gifted kids group" or the "r-worded kids class".

Autism was barely even recognized as a legitimate diagnosis at the time, and it was largely limited to, "Haha, like Rain Man! Very funny!" levels of understanding. Which track you landed in was largely vibes-based, and I'm forever grateful I was adept enough at scripting my responses at the time to make me seem normal.

Also, us Big Smart Boys got a break every day to go read in the library, where I learned how to install a pirated version of SimCity on the cataloguing computer. That was neat.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

Damn, didn't know it was- that recent of a thing? Autism recognition in schools that is.

Hell if I know where I'd wind up (though it probably would have been the latter). I scored rather decently for the ""intelligence assessment,"" but then I was a little terror (and still remain a terror, albeit a healthier and better one). I believe the assessments began because I was- in hindsight, probably stimming- and some other kid tried to busybody/stop me, ~~and I wound up in a pencil/pen stabbing fight~~

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I think the 1987 revision of the DSM was the first time autism was recognized as its own distinct thingβ€”outside of just being a subset of schizophrenia. And even then it was mostly a differentiation between, "Do you ~~have schizophrenia~~ do weird things and cannot communicate them effectively, or are you Rain Man Super Genius Savant Boy?"

Note that I don't include the word "girl" or "woman" in any of my descriptions of the time. Females are just moody, apparently!

the Chinese name for panda translates as "bear cat"

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Wonderful :o another reason to love the panda/bear cat, indeed. lea-happy Thanks! Won't have any prob remembering this I suspect (the panda fascination has simmered down or been joined by other fascinations, but the love and respect remains and is eternal)

[-] GreenTeaRedFlag@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

fascinating that the metric for egocentrism is not caring when someone else speaks about themselves.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

True lol... while admittedly I know as a matter of fact that I am absolutely egocentric (but not selfish generally about it if that makes sense), it certainly sounds and probably was a certain way for them to assess me like that.

Kid me used to go around talking about how "pride wasn't a sin," etc. though, or rather I have always had- either an ego or the ambition to meet those levels of ego (and faking it till I make it sorta nonsense). Back at this age, not sure if I was doing the "pride wasn't a sin" bit yet (I think so?) but I was definitely claiming I "inherited my parents' anger/pride" and doing highly interesting things like hissing at people at that age (the hissing ended sometime soon after I feel? Hell if I know. More self-awareness developed over time)

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

"often physically and mentally preoccupied with the idea of the panda bear" is a great sentence

Also linking pandas with "rain forest" (Tho I get what they were going for)

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I believe bamboo forests are technically rain forests nerd

Like redwood forests

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

They fucked up, shoulda leaned into the panda bears. Now the worldwide panda population is even more threatened than it was back then.

"Does not understand when other children are just teasing" wtf-am-i-reading

[-] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

Which Pokemon did you want to be though

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It would've been Raichu (simply because Raichu was my first Pokemans card and it imprinted on me).

Nowadays it would either be a Sobble (peak and beloved, my child Sobble- though then I'd never want to evolve) or Gardevoir, Hatterene, Primarina, or Lilligant (all have their own extreme appeal to being). If I were able to continue business as usual despite being a seal-mermaid I would totes be a Primarina tbh

(edit) tbh, it would have to be Primarina. Why? Because my partner would be Inteleon. And the thing is, it's apparently a thing and so cute (there's even someone who does a bunch of art about them just being cute together, though it's not me fr fr)

[-] x87_floatingpoint@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago

So I'm not the only one on this website who wants to be a PokΓ©mon? Awesome :O

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 2 points 5 days ago

There must be dozens of us (or one or two). Dozens!!

[-] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Primarina is a solid choice

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah! Honestly added on in an edit quickly after my post but it would definitely have to be Primarina. Because my partner would 1000% be Inteleon and apparently the pairing is at least somewhat a thing (someone even makes a bunch of art of them on twitter I think, just cute mushy SFW couple shit). It's not me I swear!! che-laugh

Probably best to run this kind of thing through an OCR and post the output instead, just in case something could be read through the top page.

[-] SadArtemis@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I- good point. Admittedly I've no idea what OCR is but perhaps. Anyone looking to delve into my shit isn't going to find anything impressive FWIW (or even much to wreck if they found anything) but I should look into that stuff just to be better about it all the same. Looking it up- I could replace the top one with text, idk? Though feel that kinda makes the post less satisfying appearing to me (discrepancy)

Maybe I could .jpg it up like all hell lol

[-] x87_floatingpoint@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

OCR is "optical character recognition". You give a photo of text (like the ones that you posted) to a computer program, and it prints out the text.

If you're on Linux, a good OCR program is Tesseract. I've personally used it to turn scans of old manuals into searchable PDFs, but it also can just print out the recognized text as plain text.

I got permission to share one of my kids' in-school assessments from when they were also 9 years old!

Within the classroom, β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is comfortable answering questions and contributing to discussions but may opt out of activities with which β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is unfamiliar and β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ does not feel are necessary for academic growth such as partner games or activities. This tendency has also been noted in the gymnasium, where uncertainty about rules or procedures can cause β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ to prefer to sit out.

At present, we are allowing β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ to observe and learn activities as above in the classroom and the gym, to ease β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ apprehension and allow β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ to gather the information required to have β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ participate. In one instance in the classroom, β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ had initially opted out of an activity, but then saw how it worked, and the fun others were having and said "I think I want to try now" and joined in with a safe adult as a partner first, then a peer. Similarly, we had a gym occurrence that mirrored the classroom example and we seem to gain greater participation from β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ through the following strategies:

  • do not pressure β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ into participating
  • allow β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ to observe the activity
  • watch to see if β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ shows any interest
  • ask β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ if β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ would like to try (with you or another safe adult)
  • this allows for guidance and practice of the skills in a safe environment if desired
  • once β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is comfortable and confident, see if β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ will attempt this new task with a supportive classmate or peer

STRENGTHS AND INTERESTS

  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ voluntarily participates in class when answering questions and contributing
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has an expansive and diverse vocabulary compared to β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ peers
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has a sense of humor and has shared things that β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ finds amusing based on the current conversation's context
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ enjoys reading
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is able to express β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆself in terms of needs

LEARNING NEEDS

β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has presented as exceptionally capable in all subject areas, and is predominantly working on social and emotional regulation strategies, such as:

  • Social participation (as outlined above)
  • Risk-taking in regard to new activities
  • Self-regulation and calming strategies

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has become dysregulated in the classroom on occasion, but was receptive of help from supportive peers; and seems to respond to the teacher and a calm request or question to ascertain what is bothering β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ.
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has presented as a very capable student who completes individual activities quickly. At times β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has decided that β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is "good enough" at a particular skill and is "bored"; including during tests.
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is raising β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ hand to share in class discussions, but to date these are statements or fact corrections and not yet requests for clarification or assistance.
  • β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ is supported by the peers around β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ, and β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ has friends in the class who are willing to help β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ if β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ becomes dysregulated.

Things really have come a long way over the last 40 years. Not quite as funny as yours, but I did like the subtle, "this fourth grader is fucking fact checking me in-class, what the fuck?" note. It's not mentioned in the document, but we also had a few in-person conversations about how this kid will not shut the fuck up about axolotls.

We never addressed that last point. AXOLOTL GANG! They're almost old enough to get a tattoo without my permission, and I suspect an Axolotl sleeve is in the works given what I've spied in their sketchbook recently.

First comments is understandable for any child of yer age

Second comment is adorable, on yer fascination with Pandas. Honestly, you can't go wrong with them.

Though, Idk why you'd wanna be a pokemon at that age lmao

self-relatabilityAt that age, I also had an animal fascination, particularly for Great White Sharks

Third comment, with the therapist "how come you always say something about you", I think you probably improved with give-and-take in mutual convos, but I'm pretty sure a kid wouldn't get that right away

Fourth comment: now relatable, I find myself somehow struggle to follow directions, much to my frustration, and I don't have much social interaction as I want to

Fifth comment - wow, you seem quite the opposite compared to me, at that age, when it comes to school subjects interest

Sixth comment

quickly become absorbed in a book and become unaware of {} surroundings

Priorities!

Besides that minor thing, wow, you are quite the brat at that age, lmao

Last comment, on restricted range of interests

  1. Limit the time daily that {OP's} can be involved with Panda bears

(why?)

  1. (3 questions a day)

wow extra homework, huh

  1. Establish firm expectations for work to be done outside {OP's} interest of the panda bear

Wow you might be in quite the shambles, for this

Give assignments that link {OP's} interest in Panda bears to the subject being studied

Use transfixation of panda bears to broaden {OP's} repertoire of interests

I never really understood linking, for example, math questions to cookies or, in this case, panda bears to that matter, but if that works, okay

What is Neurodivergence?

It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc

β€œneurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”

So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned

Rules

1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them

2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence

2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals

3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.

3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith

4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!
