05.01.2025 - Menthol SOTN

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: snapped Rapira Platinum Lux
  • Lather: Abbate Y La Mantia - Blu Tobacco
  • Post-Shave: OAM witch hazel & cucumber toner; Alterra men natural ASB

-> 2 passes on the head, 1 on the neck. Solid shave, but overhydrated the lather.

My cold is thankfully fading away, I think it's safe to attend nursing school tomorrow. However, my nose is still a bit stuffed and I can only smell menthol from this soap. It's thankfully not awfully cold which would be harsh in the current weather, but noticeable enough for me.

I seem to have forgotten how to use hard soaps - got the lather too wet and it was quite thin today. Very slick, but almost no protection. Thankfully, the Thorn doesn't need much despite the menacing name.

I had a bit of a skin breakout today after accidentally using a peppermint shower gel on my face too - currently I look like during the worst parts of puberty, but thankfully it's already healing due to the ointments I used. Kinda interesting, never had a problem with peppermint as an ingredient before - I suspect it's the high amount of EO in the product. Still, I'm glad that nursing school starts again tomorrow. Now it's the stressful time before our exams this year, but it provides a welcome break from the monotony of work. Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!

  • Brush: Grizzly Bay - Chisel & Hound v24 Fanchurian badger
  • Razor: GEM - Micromatic Clog-Pruf
  • Blade: Personna - GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Cologne Russe
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz - Tabac Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Ginger's Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+ menthol)
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Stirling Gentleman EdT

Cologne Russe into Tabac was an idea that occured to me while lathering and it fit surprisingly well. I can't explain why just by looking at the scent notes for Cologne Russe, but there's a warmth to the scent that fits well with the stank.

Stirling Gentleman was a great top-off. I love the warm creamy tobacco in this scent.

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers – "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Fatip Classic Testina Gentile
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (3)
  • Lather: WSP - Black Amber Vanille - Soap
  • Post Shave: Chicago Grooming Co. - Frankie & Myrna - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral
  • Fragrance: Jōvan Musk - EdT

I used to hate this soap base, but now that I know its quirks it's actually not bad. Great scent. I've smelled this smell before in candles and stuff, but I just love it. It's right in my wheelhouse. Frankie & Myrna paired quite nicely with it.

Mhm, I've never used this base. Is it weird that reading this makes me curious about trying it?

It's relatively hard.
High in coconut.
You have to load it as dry as possible or else it's bubbly garbage.
If loading is done correctly, the resulting lather is decent. Dense enough, slick enough, and actually seems to take a good amount of water.

It's sort of like if you took the Chiseled Face soap base and made it slightly worse and more temperamental. For reference, I like the Chiseled Face base.

Still losing hairs from your new brush?

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 5 days ago

Yes, unfortunately. I'd it doesn't stop by the end of the week I'll ask for a replacement or refund

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 5 days ago

Ah man, that's disappointing. I hope it settles down in the next few days.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate
