"Give me the 1080p web rip, or yee walkin' the boards here, boy"

im basic and just manually pull whatever old 1080p rips off public trackers onto my plex server as needed. don't watch enough stuff to really be bothered getting into the automation side of things. TGX has been my go-to since RARBG was kill.

Jellyfin with an *arr setup. Just found out about Solarr today.

[-] CutieBootieTootie@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Is music on Jellyfin real? The software stacks people throw together always appear too brittle to me, I'd be afraid of putting all my music in a castle of cards

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

There's quite a few apps that support it, but like books, it's not the main dev focus. Personally, I have a collection of about 8k 'albums' (including singles) that took like a whole day for Jellyfin to scan and index properly. Then navigating through it was always very slow. I leave video content to Jellyfin and use Navidrome for music because it's significantly faster and most apps that support Jellyfin also support Navidrome/Subsonic, etc.

I only use Jellyfin for vids. So I can't really say.

tbh, that Navidrome combined with Soularr sounds like it would be a good combo for putting in a car.

I’ve been looking for this exact solution tysm

i go to the piracy megathread on reddit. i go to the streaming section. i click on the goats until one actually loads and doesn't stop every 3 seconds

does it suck? yes. but i do not have the capability to download whatever i like for watching, so i am at the mercy of sketchy pirate sites and the agencies trying to shut them down

if you're looking for movies specifically and they didn't come out very recently i would strongly recommend seeing what your library can do for you, be that rentals or access to services like Kanopy, these are nice, if they have the sorts of things you want

I've been in the private torrent tracker cabal for a decade so I mainly use those. I don't use the *arrs and just manually download what I want from the site and plug it into a torrent client on my server, which is hooked up to stuff like Jellyfin, Navidrome, etc

[-] CutieBootieTootie@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

How it Navidrome? Is it actually usable?

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yeah, its one of the gold standard hostable ones. The web interface isn't pretty but its not like 90s style software either. I use it when I'm at my desktop. Its easy to set up with Docker, scans things quickly, connects flawlessly to the player apps that I use like Tempo. I use Wireguard on my phone to use it like Spotify when I'm away. I also have it hooked up to listenbrainz so I can get a 'wrapped' at the end of the year and get music recommendations if I want.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

qbittorrent, only public trackers because I don't have good enough upload speed to get into private trackers.

[-] LisaTrevor@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

I was on a subreddit called r/megalinks which was pretty much what it said on the tin. it got threatened by the admins so the mods jumped ship to self hosting and I migrated with them. then they had to move domains and shut down new registrations because it was getting too popular.

so I basically got grandfathered into a private mega link sharing forum by complete luck

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

usenet, with Sonarr and Radarr set up and mostly NZBGeek as indexer

[-] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

How do you start getting into usenet?

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

hey, i'll try to find a guide or throw together a guide post in the near future because i'm going to bed

please remind me if i forget and if anyone is still interested. I'll try to find some existing guides tomorrow

[-] graymess@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

I switched from torrents to Usenet years ago and never regretted it once. Makes everything much easier and simpler.

I use rtorrent/rutorrent on a couple invite only sites. I don’t download much tho because I don’t g*me, and don’t really watch movies or tv. My kids aren’t really tv/movie watchers anymore either. Maybe a movie or two every couple months to a 12 year old HP workstation stuffed into a closet.

[-] peppersky@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Trackers: Torrentleech and RuTracker (mostly for movie blu-ray remuxes and games)

Music: Nicotine+ (Better soulseek client)

When you just want to watch some tv show or movie and don't care about the quality: lookmovie.to

For obscure and experimental films: yandex.com and vk.com

I just manually do public trackers and search lime torrents, Mulivad vpn, qbittorrent. I'm hoping to start to get into private trackers some day. I use Unraid on an old rig and host Jellyfin on it. Pretty cool setup and I'm really happy with what I've built.

[-] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

Private tracker I've been a member of for like a decade, plus a few public ones, whenever they don't have something, running through Transmission over a VPN on a file server in my basement.

[-] Kratos@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Jackett with Transmission and Jellyfin. I only search public trackers because private ones never made sense to me. The setup is missing arr software between Jackett and Transmission for naming conventions and better search but it eats a lot of resources on my old server. Check out FMHY.net for links and resources
