I don't know any Lemmy users IRL. I have nudged my friends towards it. My partner has asked me to post things a few times. Just curious.

I have at least 3 friends IRL that are on Lemmy. One of them I got to join, and two are friends I met doing mutual aid and other organizing projects. Later found out they're on here.

You are the only person so far that knows someone else's on Lemmy and you aren't reason they joined or vis-versa

Huzzah! I know a bunch of geeks and radicals, so maybe that's why.

[-] vatlark@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Woah very cool. Excuse my ignorance but is "mutual aid" a term for helping out your neighbor? Which is something people have always done but it often sounds like when people use the term "mutual aid" it is a bit more organized. Does that ring true for you?

[-] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah, that's pretty much it. "Mutual aid" is meant to be distinct from "charity" which has a different kind of implication. Mutual aid is more about "we help each other". Charity can absolutely be organized, but tends to be more "structured" than mutual aid efforts.

Two. The friend who sent me here and a friend I sent here.

Big fat goose egg 0. A lot of people I talk to don't even know what Reddit is, really.

Just my partner and I.

Just my husband, but not sure he counts as he doesn’t have an account. I did meet one of my closest friends on Reddit though.

So far I don't think I've met anyone

PS. According to the subscribers of the Greek community, there are probably less than 70 Greeks online on lemmy (and probably some of them live abroad), so it's probably rather rare to find someone who uses it.

I know one.

I know one who I stumble upon once in a while in the comments, we say hi to each other

[-] phpinjected@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 months ago

no one uses lemmy in my country.

[-] lIlIllIlIIIllIlIlII@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago

I know some people using that big social network Lemmy-like. But none of them came to here.

Just my wife, who downloaded the app for me and subscribed to instances because it's too complicated and effort

[-] vatlark@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah that's certainly a weakness of signing up for the fediverse (Lemmy, mastodon, etc).

0.5. One friend found my lemmy account when scouring the internet for TTRPG maps. I think that halfway counts, even if he doesn't have an account of his own.

[-] vatlark@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Ha I'll add 0.5 to the count
