without playing, is the joke that the game is unwinnable because the moderate wing of fascism cannot prevent the extreme wing of fascism?

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago

i certainly couldnt , wierd thing i noticed , theres "building international relations" but you cant with the Commintern , only embedd a spy .. like wtf..

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago

Maybe you should play the SPD in 1914 and prevent WW1. Or play the SPD in 1919 and join the communists instead of sending the Freikorps after them. Or play the SPD in 1920 and use the momentum of the general strike against the Kapp coup to crush the Freikorps and have all the leading figures of the Conservative Revolution shot. Or play the SPD in 1923 and just kill Hitler after his coup attempt. Or play the SPD in 1925, not make von Hindenburg chancelor, keep the NSDAP illegal and disband the Stahlhelm and the SA.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

This game actually gives you the choice to disband the Stalhelm but they just come back later anyway (at least, they did in my playthrough).

[-] AtomPunk@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

Lol yes this game was posted on TikTok by a radlib with a very grave and self-important messaging. He was pilloried in the comments by leftists for not considering that maybe the KPD was correct.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 36 points 1 month ago

Where’s the “Let Stalin take over the country” option?

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

i tried to get supermajority with the KPD didnt work out.. even when i replaced my hole leadership ..

Also whats up with Building "international Relations" but the option with soviet union is just "embedd a Spy" wtf ..

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Got the Civil War ending by just going full left all the time, which while it's obviously supposed to be the "bad ending" still strikes me as an improvement over WWII.

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

oh no the dark terror of war has dawned on the weimar republic powercry-2

wait how many Soviet divisions are being ferried across the baltic rn? the Italians could help the fash but the French & English would sit out like in Spain, very meaningful and committed support from the USSR was very practicable and infinitely more appropriate in Germany's case.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Umm actually it is viewed as an internal matter and no foreign powers get involved, this is basically the same as the nazis winning.

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

the dastardly KPD get their marching orders from the Kremlin but also would be abandoned the moment great opportunity for the Soviets arises

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

after trying the game for a while it reaks of lib brain .. the obvious option is forbidden.. even if historical the soviet -weimar relations where pretty important .. you can not build relation with them.

[-] Zuzak@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago

My biggest criticism of this game is that you can't throw support Thälmann at the end unless you've put substantial effort into building relations with the KPD. It says something like, "They won't allow us to support them," like what?? Meanwhile, even if the bourgeois parties hate you, you can still support them into government to "maintain stability" while getting nothing in exchange!

I guess if you could simply support Thälmann, it would make stopping Hitler too easy and wouldn't be much of a game.

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

Well, that actually is what the SPD did historically.

[-] WIIHAPPYFEW@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago

lol @ how all the best strategies I’ve seen for it are abt transforming the party into an effective socialist entity that the KPD can agree to ally with

[-] TheGenderWitch@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

social democrat bullshit, never trust a 3 arrows symbol user

[-] SpookyGenderCommunist@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

But I have a 3 arrows patch 🥺...

Not because I fuck with the anti-communism bit. But because only other leftists will have any lick of an idea what it means.

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Leftists: "Uhh, that guy has a youtube or something, right?"

[-] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Does that work out well? I see the patch and I avoid those people.

[-] SpookyGenderCommunist@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

I've gotten to talking to at least a few people about leftist politics, of varying sorts because of it.

Honestly, most people who recognize it aren't immediately seeing it and thinking "THE THIRD ARROW MEANS ANTI-COMMUNISM! AAAAHHH!"

Hell, more obscure than that, do even most leftists know that one of the arrows stands for anti-monarchism?

No. They see it, divorced from its original usage, as a general anti-fascist symbol. In that sense, I use it because it's a way to dogwhistle my politics rather than using a antifa flag logo (which chuds know about now) or a hammer and sickle (which interestingly, was the other patch in the two-pack I bought off etsy, with the three arrows patch)

It's like the save icon in your word processor. The picture is of a floppy disc, something we don't use anymore. But the image has grown to have a more general, related meaning, beyond just being a picture dead media format. Time has sanded off the specificities of the symbol's meaning, and simplified it to a more abstract essence.

[-] MeowZedong@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Interesting. I guess I always saw it and focused on the anticommunist part, probably because I'm used to running into Western leftists who don't support AES. If it's being used more widely the way you use it, then maybe my knee jerk reaction was wrong. Next time I see one, I'll have to strike up a convo.

Lol at the patch combo, I wonder if that was on purpose?

I have no idea what I'm doing.

historical accurate SPD gameplay.

[-] gramxi@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

started an arduously long civil war and turned Germany into a failed state stalin-approval

[-] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Thats actually the solution i think.. Hitler leading the Bavarian republik against the Thuringian Union or something is kind of a Solution to the hole hitler thing ,and the germany thing.

the programmer that gives only the option to "embedd a spy" with the soviet union , instead of building relations with it.

[-] WittyProfileName2@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Easy game, don't bother playing liberal instead prep for the inevitable civil war:

Nab the interior ministry and anything else defence related, militarise the reichsbanner, purge rightists in reichswehr and police, ally with communists, shore up union support, form the iron front (but swerve it away from anti-communism), and just coup Hitler the moment he takes office. The most useful foreign relations thing you can do is training with Austrian socialists (no anarchists nor USSR for some reason). When the civil war popped off I had the police and military helping the communists crush nazi skull while the unions' general strike paralysed the state.

The game seems to treat this as the worst out of potential ways to prevent Nazi Germany which is cringe on its half.
