What game is this? I'm guessing Ticket To Ride?

Looks like the Europe map of Ticket to Ride. Neat version.

My favourite version of the game.

Yep, in Europe

When playing a friendly game of TTR in our house it is considered bad form to block unless it is part of your route. Like, it is a completely valid strategy in real life (as it appears to be done in the op's pic) to take the one and two car routes just to be defensive/disruptive. But doing that ruins game night here.

It is fine, but I prefer a more "aggressive" style. I'd love to play one of those games where you pretend not to be the villain, but it would end marriages and result in long stints of not speaking to one another. Sigh. At least we have fun together.

Have you played TTR Europe? It has a station mechanic allowing players to use other players' trains to complete their objectives. It means you can block and be aggressive without hurting the other player TOO badly.

Yes! We love Europe and it is our go-to version. The stations help, for sure.

If you play enough games of Secret Hitler in a night everybody will be the bad guy at least once, hence nobody has an excuse to get mad.

Lol, rekt. Big Risk, big reward!

Not so bad. TTR Europe has the station mechanic, allowing you to use opponent trains to complete your routes. They obviously lost the longest route bonus, but that's not the end of the game.

My partner is typically mild-mannered... except for when they play this game.

Generally I enjoy board games, but for whatever reason I absolutely can't stand Ticket to Ride.

It's a shame because several friends and family really like it, but for whatever reason, I just can't put together the gameplay and strategy in my mind, and either because of that or in addition to that, I've never once had fun while playing it.

This and Farkle are two of the few that I just try to politely decline now. I'll make everyone a snack or something and sit out.

It's very much a gateway game, low complexity. Quite possible your tastes have moved past it to more complicated stuff.
