Governments should never use closed systems for official communication, especially not systems owned by a Nazi

God I love Charlie Angus.

This should have been done two years ago.

They still haven't?

Thank you! I just signed this. Probably won’t get anywhere but it’s worth it to try.

I agree with the petition, but I wish it had mentioned that Twitter hides most, if not all, of an account's tweets behind a login wall. Same for Instagram for that matter. That's a strong reason not to use it for government communication.

I love that Senator Paula Simons @Paulatics@mstdn.ca is active on mastodon, totally support an official instance.

Pubic services should use public platforms to share their messages, the private sector can then relay it, or not.

How can offial government communication use TwitX? Most of us never visit the site.

Our regional police uses Twitter, and since I don't, I have to use some complex-ass relay through a third-party Mastodon account that I read through an RSS feed (because I don't Mastodon, either!)... it's not cool that official, important messages are put behind the wall of a private platform.

wouldnt surprise me if president elon and vp trump would consider this an “act of war”

We should make our own twitter and call it Canuck... itter. With hookers and blackjack.

I think an actual official government instance would be a good idea. Probably Mastodon would make the most sense, since it would mostly be one-way announcements. With federation, easy enough to get that viewable wherever it's needed.
