Reddit has been doing this shit for years. It's a big reason why I left. Spez (little piggie) was only the catalyst.

A few ban-happy,power tripping moderators did come over here, though. I don't have specifics on that, I just know I've seen them, and I've also been banned for some real dumb shit. I just stay away from those communities/instances.

Ive been on Reddit for 10 to 15 years. Its always been a strange place but ive never seen anything like what's going on at the moment.

  • weird rules (like 'Luigi') being applied system-wide without being communicated
  • automated actions applied to individual users site-wide, like allowing them to engage but preventing them from creating posts anywhere
  • over zealous mods. I'm assuming a lot of mods got sick of it and left over the last few years and those doing the work are under experienced. Or maybe just AI. Its possible.
  • GPTs engaging in posts and comments for training
  • agents from hostile governments agitating and spurring on political discussions that favour their agenda.

So yeah I'm giving up on it now, its just no fun anymore.

I am pretty sure a bunch of mods on big subreddits are actually Reddit employees cosplaying as normal users too.

Oh, and Reddit is now shadow banning your accounts when you evade a ban on a sub. So now I got all my accounts shadow banned because I ended up commenting on a sub I was banned on one account without noticing it, so I have zero reasons to go back to using reddit anymore. At least before I got a ban and was notified about how long it would take for my accounts to be usable again, now they are shadow banned without any notifications and I have no idea if they will ever go back to normal or not, so fuck it.

Out of the loop somehow, what is (this) Luigi all about?

[-] programmer_belch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

Luigi Mangioni is going through trial for his murder of the United Healthcare CEO. Lots of people rally behind him as a symbol of fighting against the system and the system is not too pleased about it.

[-] LeninsOvaries@lemmy.cafe 1 points 3 months ago

Luigi wouldn't hurt a fly.

"check for violence" for any comments that contain the word "Luigi".

This is gonna make Nintendo retro-garming discussions really awkward.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

It's not like we don't have mod drama but at least when you're federated, stupid decisions get limited to a single instance and others can simply defederate. Does allow for pretty... erm, interesting views you don't see on Reddit.

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 1 points 3 months ago

Also the modlog is public so you can at least see who was banned for what.

[-] LeninsOvaries@lemmy.cafe 1 points 3 months ago

Nah, mods can just lie in the modlog. Verify that shit, don't listen to someone just because they're an authority.

Unless they're a .ml admin. The admins of lemmy.ml are always perfect.

Man goes to the doctor.

He says "Doctor, I am miserable. I have been banned from one of my favourite Lemmy instances for no good reason."

Doctor says "Treatment is simple. db0 runs a community for disputing wrongful bans. Go argue with strangers. That should pick you up."

"But, Doctor..." says the man, "I was banned by db0."

The fact that people still use reddit is insane to me.

[-] Spookiebear@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

Well that means they’re afraid. We’re not calling for anything violent we’re just calling out what we see. It’s a shame that Reddit went red. #boycottreddit

[-] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 months ago

Luigi Luigi. Luigi Luigi Luigi. Luigi, Luigi Luigi hahaha. Luigi Luigi.

[-] Emmie@lemm.ee 0 points 3 months ago

Deserved for the name alone, not the mention the fact of being a Redditor

[-] ByteOnBikes@slrpnk.net 0 points 3 months ago

They banned my old reddit account because I reported fake news that was being posted on r/conservative. Apparently subreddit mods can report users who use the report tool and can just get you banned.

[-] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I got permanently banned for pointing out that a popular sex advice subreddit was being run by a rapist…

[-] socsa@piefed.social 1 points 3 months ago

And then they say "if a user is breaking the rules, don't engage, use the report button."

[-] imvii@lemmy.ca -1 points 3 months ago

My 11 year old account, very active account, was recently banned from reddit but I'm not sure why. They deleted the comment so I'm not sure what it said. But I've been posting there for 11 years with no issues so something has changed.

I believe the comment I made was talking about if the US invaded Canada and I said they would be hard pressed to hold the country because Canadians look like Americans and we would take the battle across the border.

It's a common sense statement. Doesn't incite any more violence then quoting half the things Trump says about Canada any given day.

I think Reddit is purging the left leaning accounts and making a Nazi safespace like Twitter.

So sad…I loved Reddit…I’m so sad to see it come to this. I’m so sad for all of the young people who think this is how the internet should be…..
