The suspects were identified earlier this month as a 38-year-old man named Zheng and a 55-year-old woman named Wang, both from the Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia.

So after all this time, the Mongols finally breached the wall...

Oooo I hate those Mongolians, they ruined my shitty wok

[-] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago

How come every time we Chinese build a wall, Mongolians gotta come knock it down?!

Crossposted here because the tankie admins of lemmy.ml censored this comment and banned my lemmy.ml alt for "racism" because of it:

"Yeah, only the CCP is allowed to destroy China's cultural heritage!"

At this point it's probably better to move the larger default communities like World News, Technology, Memes, etc. to less extremist instances, because you never know what kinds of discussion the ideologues over there are censoring.

Dam, you beat me to making that comment. I will at least add an article for those interested:

In many ways, lemmy.ml is worse than reddit. On Reddit we mostly only had to deal with power tripping mods. On lemmy.ml we also get power tripping admins in top of everything.

[-] scottywh@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The admins on Reddit have been shitty for a long time too.

[-] wahming 5 points 1 year ago

Not denying that, but for the most part they weren't involved in censoring random comments on random subs.

That’s a shame no matter what you think of the Chinese government. I’ll never be happy to see any piece of humanity’s history damaged or destroyed

[-] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Why mention the chinese government at all ?

Probably because it's in China... though this seems like an unnecessary jump.

[-] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Some people are willing to write off anything bad happening to China as something they deserve due to communism. I think one of humanity’s greatest achievements should be exempt from that

[-] Vodik_VDK@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I’ll never be happy to see any piece of humanity’s history damaged or destroyed.

Not to worry, there's still more than enough Great Wall of China to go around.

[-] baatliwala@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Would be nice if someone could do this to the Great Firewall as well

[-] expatriado@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

now those damn mongols are going to rush in with their sexy calvary archers

[-] PenguinJuice@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Damn you mongolians!!!! Stop attacking my shitty wall!!

[-] Subverb@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I don't understand the picture in the article. They trot the suspects out in handcuffs for a posed photo-op and then blur their faces.

That doesn't make sense.

[-] AceBonobo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

How deos the great wall affect wildlife in the region? Maybe retrofitted some openings isn't a bad idea.

[-] zik@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I think whatever wildlife was affected by it suffered their main disappointment a couple of thousand years ago.
