Image is of the breach in the tailings dam near Kitwe.

On February 18th, 50 million liters of acidic waste from a copper mine was accidentally released into the Kafue River after a tailings dam collapsed. The Kafue River stretches for a thousand miles across Zambia and a majority of the country - millions of people - rely on it, for both the economy and drinking water.

The results have already been catastrophic. The water supply for the city of Kitwe, home to 700,000 people, was completely shut off. As the wave of contamination moved downstream, a wave of death accompanied it as dead fish dotted the river surface. The government is dropping lime into the river to try and counteract the acid with an alkali and neutralize the water, but the tailings also contain toxic heavy metals that will undoubtably seep into the nearby environment and affect the area for years to come.

A considerable portion of the media attention to the accident has been devoted to the fact that the mine was Chinese-owned, as well as China's broader influence and investment in the region. Western anti-China propaganda aside, it has been clear to those in the know that these mines have been badly managed and needlessly dangerous for years now, and it is disappointing - to say the least - to see disasters of this magnitude occur from Chinese businesses. Hopefully this prompts a wave of investigations into China-owned mine managers all around the continent, who will then hopefully face real consequences for their actions.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.

Are Bernie and AOC doing some propaganda tour or something? I keep see stuff about the two of them.

Trying to whitewash their support for genocide?

[-] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Yes, AOC's numbers nationally are looking quite poor (net negative 14% approval rating), so I guess this is an attempt to try boost that, with Sanders by proxy to try and improve her favorability. AOC got overlooked for some key position in the Democratic party with some ancient ghoul taking the position instead, so her national political career within the party is in crisis if she doesn't course course correct. If AOC can't get something going, she'll continue to be sidelined and the Democrats will push other candidates instead on the national scene.

Israel obliterated the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital (the only cancer hospital in Gaza) after using it as a military base .

This mirrors the situation with Al-Isra University, which was also used as an Israeli military base before being rigged with explosives and demolished.

Likely covering up war crimes...

Some internet nerds were able to figure out what all the US mid air refueling aircraft with "GOLD" callsigns (usually used for the deployment of fighter jets to foreign nations east of the USA) were doing. It turns out that more F-35A fighter aircraft are being deployed to the Middle East, with a stop over in the UK. The first four F-35As have already arrived, and there are rumours that more are on the way, a total of 12 is the number floating around as of now. But those are rumours, so far only four F-35As have arrived. The UK is increasingly being used as a midpoint base by the US for deployments to the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.

Edit: Further investigation reveals that the 4-12 F-35As are based out of Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, and a total of seven C-17, and one C-5M military transport/cargo aircraft have dropped off cargo there in support of the F-35 mission.

airstrip 1 back at it

[-] Terrarium@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

Also note that refueling aircraft like these tend to be made by union labor, so pay very close attention to solidarity requests and who supports which unions. For example, IAM represents Boeing machinists that build and maintain these types of planes used to support "Israeli" genocide campaigns.

Latest statement by the Yemeni Armed Forces:

It seems as if the new tactic to try and economically damage Israel is to fire ballistic missiles at the main international airport, to disrupt air travel. Along with forcing Israelis into bomb shelters at the middle of the night, every night. So the missiles primarily act as a economic and psychological weapon now. A change in strategy that makes sense given that the Israelis, with assistance from the US Space Force, seemed to have figured out how do do boost phase or early midcourse interception of a single Palestine 2 missile at a time. Intercepting these missiles costs Israel a lot of money in Arrow 3 interceptors $2-3 million dollars each), but the Palestine-2 missiles themselves are also expensive (prices for MaRV capable MRBMs aren't exactly public information, but estimates range from hundreds of thousands to potentially millions of dollars each), so it makes sense for Yemen to try inflict the most amount of economic damage possible if a single missile can't reliably reach Israeli airspace, for a terminal intercept or impact/direct hit. Firing multiple missiles at Israel at a time could be another solution, but that is likely too expensive for Yemen to keep up in the medium term, which is probably why they're not doing it.

Only one way attack UAVs from the air force fired at the the destroyers in the Carrier Strike Group (CSG), no cruise missiles or naval/submersible drones, which happened last time. No direct targeting of the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier itself this time around.

VOA is officially gone, 1000 staff now jobless. I think even I have underestimated how much this is going to harm the US' propaganda machine. That is a huge fucking number. To put this in perspective BBC news has 7000 staff and that is global and absolutely fucking massive. 1000 is incredibly large for a propaganda outfit.

Chen does not fuck around in celebrating

[-] Boise_Idaho@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

This has all the signs of corporate mismanagement. They (perhaps correctly) believe that VOA and other propaganda outlets need to be reorganized with some outlets needing to be shut down, but they assume that this reorganization can be instantly done instead of taking years, if not decades. So now, there's going to be a giant gap between VOA being shut down and whatever more-effective-on-paper replacement gets build.

This is the classic case of capitalists being divorced from labor and thinking problems can be solved by throwing enough money at it.

Israel did a false flag rocket attack from Lebanon (3 small rockets, lmao) and is using that as an excuse for a widespread bombing campaign.

Dear nortenos, what is the current average egg price in the good 'ol US of A?

Not that eggs are THAT cheap as Gunther would like you to believe, I just paid 5 heckin' Euroinos for 6 eggs, which didn't even come from so organic free range farm.

(I insist that this post is "news" on multiple levels! Relevant for eggs enthusiasts, Gunther enjoyers and general Euro-US decline news.)

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 1 points 4 months ago

Nowhere in europe are eggs that cheap
