Thanks for the update, but this breaks rule #1 - it's not a question and the community is Ask Lemmy. We can leave this up for a few hours so that there's a central place to chat.

[-] profilelost@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 1 year ago

No need, there's enough other better suited places where news like this can be discussed.

[-] hsl@wayfarershaven.eu 13 points 1 year ago

Suggestions? Then we have a concrete place to point people towards.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 year ago

!fediverse@lemmy.ml perhaps? There's already a post there.

[-] Burns@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

No problem, your call. I knew this is mostly outside of the community rules but assumed that a bunch of “what’s going on with lemmy.world?” questions will pop up quickly so might as well cross post it here. Feel free to remove when this blows over.

Strangely, this is what makes the Federated system so much better than centralized systems. Lemmy.world goes down? No problem I can switch to one of my other accounts in an instant and keep going.

[-] Mane25@feddit.uk 35 points 1 year ago

My thoughts exactly, and also it makes it a pretty useless thing to DDoS for what ever reason.

[-] Resolved3874@lemdro.id 28 points 1 year ago

Lol I got home from work and opened Lemmy.world. page loaded fine but I couldn't upvote and the comments wouldn't load. Tried again after restarting firefox and same thing. Switched to Lemdro.id and continued like it wasn't happening.

[-] sadreality@kbin.social 23 points 1 year ago

This is what we in the induatry call "Commitment to to shit postin'"

Thank you for your service!

[-] mintiefresh@lemmy.ca 198 points 1 year ago

Darn. Lemmy.world can't catch a break.

[-] EliasChao@lemmy.one 61 points 1 year ago

That’s what you get from being the most popular instance I guess.

[-] OtakuAltair@lemm.ee 51 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

And that's why people should spread out, as is the entire point of decentralization

[-] LilDumpy@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

My thoughts exactly

[-] ZombieZookeeper@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Spez trying to show who's in charge.

[-] Wander@yiffit.net 161 points 1 year ago

Who would be so pissed at lemmy.world to DDoS them?

They might want to consider using Cloudflare or a similar solution if they don't already.

[-] roon@lemmy.ml 109 points 1 year ago
[-] Kichae@kbin.social 161 points 1 year ago

Brands don't have to do shit like this. They have weird trolls with weirder parasocial relationships to intellectual property to do it for them, unprompted.

[-] HonkTonkWoman@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago

It’s the rise spezkin. Super Reddit Hyper Loyalists so invested in their upcoming karma farming fortunes that any threat to Reddit gets met with scorched earth tactics.

…I’m only kidding, I hope this doesn’t become a thing.

[-] remkit@lemmy.kya.moe 34 points 1 year ago

he's an astroturfer though, is he really low enough to stoop to ddos? thankfully the fediverse is diverse and resilient to attacks to any one instance lol

[-] genoxidedev1@kbin.social 20 points 1 year ago

He'd be. But his fanbois already do that for him so he doesn't have to do it himself and worry about consequences.

Probably just a terrible person who is bored

[-] DauntingFlamingo@lemmy.ml 41 points 1 year ago

As a terrible person who is bored, that seems like too much work

[-] neal@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Yes something like Cloudflare would be very good. Even I have it on my tiny test instance.

[-] erre@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

It doesn't break federation? I recall it broke federation for kbin, thought it'd be the same for Lemmy sue to the underlying tech being the same.

"The free exchange of communication and ideas, unrestricted by capitalist interference? Can't have that kind of evil in the world. Surely it's my duty to shut this down, so that others may come to know the flavor of corporate boot leather as well as I have."

[-] Lifecoach5000@lemmy.world 94 points 1 year ago

I’m browsing from an app via lemmy.world and haven’t noticed any issue yet. Testing to see if this actually posts.

[-] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 128 points 1 year ago

Looks like it didn't work. We can't see your post.

[-] mysoulishome@lemmy.world 54 points 1 year ago

I can’t see either of your comments. Is this because I’m on lemmyworld also?

[-] leapingleopard@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

have you tried turning it on and off again?

[-] Wxnzxn@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 year ago

I would have done so, but unfortunately, I couldn't read your advice

[-] v_krishna@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago

I only see hunter2 what do you see?

[-] Gellis12@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 year ago

All I see is hunter2

[-] Parabola@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago
[-] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

In all honesty, I can see your comments from lemm.ee. I wonder if lemmy.world is back up now.

This isn't an open ended question and as such doesn't belong on this community. You're welcome to continue the discussion over at !fediverse@lemmy.ml

I'll lock the thread but not remove it so that you can see what has been said so far.

This is warning showing why spreading out is important. No one instance being offline should be able to affect so many Motorheads at once.

[-] Antematter@lemmy.studio 8 points 1 year ago

Havent heard motorheads before. Thats funny.

I am 100% sure spez and his braindead followers are behind this and nobody can convince me otherwise.

Logged on from Lemmy.world through voyager to see if this comment posts…

Edit: looks like it works

[-] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It didn’t, can’t see it

Plot twist: user is blind

[-] TheSaneWriter@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Damn, hackers are being really uncool towards lemmy.world. Hopefully some good can come from this and they can implement robust security systems that help protect Lemmy instances from these types of attacks.

[-] ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Someone or a group must have some hate towards Lemmy.World. Jeez.

Is Lemmy.world going to continue to be attacked since it’s one of the biggest?

[-] remkit@lemmy.kya.moe 6 points 1 year ago

hopefully not, they do have a good portion of communities.
