If an app can only be disabled there is a very useful tool called Android Debloater. Using a computer, download ADB + Fastboot (I prefer the portable version, no installer), move the files from Debloater into the same folder as the ADB files, and execute the debloater from that folder.

Once you learn the basics of enabling USB debugging on your Android, connecting it to the computer and running the debloat tool, everything else is simple. It gives various recommended lists of apps to disable or completely uninstall, and descriptors for almost every package so you know what it's used for. It's how you can remove any unwanted social media apps, and is indispensable when deGoogling without custom ROMs.

Thank you very much!! I will be doing this!

Romming my Android phones was a lot of fun. Would recommend. Except the few times the screen went black for slightly too long and I puckered so hard I embossed the chair I was sitting on.

Settings->Apps->Galaxy Store->Settings for Galaxy Store->Notifications->Disable

Works on my Galaxy A53 5G with OneUI 6.1, Android 14. I don't even see update notifs for apps I have from there.

Better yet, use adb to remove all the junk from your phone.

Uninstall it? That's what I did.

ADB AppControl. Uninstall it and every app they subject you to.

Go to the app -> settings -> notification categories

[-] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Turning it off is grayed out

[-] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Yes notifications overall but in the app you can turn off individual categories

[-] Lojcs@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Although notification categories itself is disabled by default on samsung. You need to enable it from developer settings

[-] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

For the last time this is in the app itself. No dev options

[-] Lojcs@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Notification categories not a part of the app. It used to be accessible through notification settings for all apps that define categories but samsung hid it from that ui a while back and apparently added a button inside that app

I've been using Samsung phones since 2011 and have never seen anything like this. I'm using an S25 Ultra right now and have never had ads in my notifications. Not sure what you setup incorrectly but this certainly isn't the normal experience.

The os and experience on a flagship model is very different from budget models. They know people will suck it up since the other comparable, affordable options are also garbage.

Just had the same thing happen. You can't turn off all notifications, but you can disable most types except "important" ones in the app itself. I'm hoping it won't happen again but knowing Samsung they consider their ads very important...

All samsung product is shit except their earbuds. Riddled with ads and scammy practice.

[-] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I wrote a 11 part essay in second or third year university about how shit my phone was. Not for marks, didn't publish it anywhere. I just hated it so much and wanted to gather my thoughts. If only YouTube has been a big enough thing for little old me, could have been one of the first video essay, listicle, tech critiquing channels.

But yeah Samsung never won me back after that. If you can't build a flip phone right, I don't want your fridges...

I think you only get this if you agreed to its terms and registered. Not sure, because I never got these and can't agree with the terms.
