I feel like the future of technology is just a constant war between hackers and pirates vs big tech, no one will really ever win, just a constant struggle (unless new laws are passed). Just like how games and video streaming have DRMs, but people still are able to circumvent them given enough time.

The Good Place. I watched it during an existential crisis to confront my fear of death. It totally changed my mind! Now, I am too comfortable with the idea of death, and sometimes want to end it faster. I'm getting too tired and depressed to watch climate change slowly consume the world.

There are very spicy ones where they don't take laws into consideration. Would not recommend visiting unless you want to end up in a government watchlist.

Edit: Probably listed in the list of instances in [Instance-URL]/instances (for example, lemmy.world/instances), and you can see "Linked Instances" and "Blocked Instances" and if you wanna see spicy stuff go visit the blocked stuff. Again, some of those might put you in a government watchlist. If you do decide to visit those, Chris Hansen might be asking you to take a seat.

Umm... just use firefox?

On PC and Android, you can get privacy extentions like uBlock Origin that blocks most ads and trackers. What about firefox do you not like?

On Android, I personally use Fennec, which is a fork of Firefox maintained by the same non-profit organization but without any Google-Play shennanigans.

Meh, decentralized youtube alternatives have practically nothing interesting.

Social media and forums, I can see them getting replaced. Social media and forums are about the people, powered by discussion amongst peers. Decentralized Social platforms will thrive if there's enough people. A video platform? Videos take a lot more effort and only a small percentage of users are really "content creators". These content creators typically want to get paid for so much effort they put in to the videos, so it's really unlikely a decentralized platform can provide adequate compensation. Youtube ain't going away anytime soon whether you like it or not.

TLDR; Video Platforms =/= Social medias and Forums.
