iOS now has a "Lockdown Mode" which is supposed to be more secure against pegasus, but can break some functionality, but then again, it's a closed source OS so you'll have to take their word for it.

Do you mean the red/black in the profile picture? Lol that's supposed to be an anarchist symbol. I can't control what authoritarians do with an anarchist symbol 🤷‍♂️

I mean like... am I supposed to create a new symbol every time someone steals it?

Edit: Also: wtf? I googled the country and they use Red/Green. I can't find a source saying they used Red/Black

But will congress enforce the rules? By enforce, I mean using the power of Impeachment and voting to convict under said Article(s) of Impeachment. Otherwise, any rules are pointless. A president can only be prosecuted after leaving office, how do prosecute a sitting supreme court justice who serves for life? Even if you did, they'd still be a sitting justice that can rule from prison since criminal conviction =/= impeachment conviction, and I'd imagine the case could go up to the very court that he/she sit in, and it only takes 4 of their collegues plus their own vote to overturn their own conviction.

In this political climate, it's practically impossible to convict a justice under the impeachment procedure.

Every person has the right to Food, Water, Clothing, Shelter, and most importantly... a Gaming PC. Gamer are being oppressed and politicians are already trying to take away our GPU rights. That must stop!

A well regulated Gamer Group being necessary to the security of a free Gaming Society, the right to own Gaming PCs shall not be infringed upon!

Crossposted this in case of takedown. Hope this isn't breaking the rules.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/1370464

Original Title: At least one lemmy.world admin accepted an off the record meeting with meta, and they won't tell you about it.

Edit: I cannot confirm if the Original OP is telling the truth or lying, figured I wanted more people to see this so you can decide for yourselves who to believe.

Edit 2: Archived Link: https://archive.is/aJrnU

Edit 3: Hmm... Interesting... The original post was taken down instead of admins making a response. I mean, if I were an admin with nothing to hide, I'd just simply say "I did not have a secret meeting with anyone representing Meta/Facebook" then maybe lock the thread if stuff gets too out of hand. Deleting a post is not the right thing to do, and even if you are innocent, now you just made yourself look bad.

Edit 4: I appreciate the fact that the mods elected to use the lock thread option instead of outright removing this post. I do not agree with your decision, but I respect the fact that you left this post up. Alright, so that's the end of this, hopefully the next time someone make accusations, they provide evidence. Also, if you are making a legitimate accusation, make sure to crosspost to different instances to make takedowns more difficult. So to conclude this, I want to state these facts:

  1. The Original OP did not seem to have provided any evidence.

  2. The Original Post was removed and the Original OP was banned from the community which the post was in.

  3. None of the admins of lemmy.world made a statement in response to the accusations.

You can draw whatever conclusion you want from this. But without any further information, this discussion cannot continue any longer, since a mod has already locked this post.

Don't belive me? Ask them.

Fosstodon admins were at least transparent and shared with their community when they were approached by meta for an off the record meeting, which was awesome. They also declined that meeting and shared screenshots of them doing so.

But lemmy.world admins won't tell you that at least one of them accepted that same meeting request. Why won't they say that?

Tell your community that you accepted a meeting with meta. Thats not wrong in and of itself, but I feel it is shady/not right when you're communicating about a wait-and-see approach, while having meetings with the company in question yet not being transparent about it.

@ruud@lemmy.world care to comment?

Also, I'm spinning up my own instance because I don't trust this platform to folks who aren't transparent. Don't ask me to join, it's going to be just for me for now. I don't even know that I have time to admin an instance, but my trust is wearing thin based on the facts at hand. So, it's what I'm doing.

What I means is do you use your phone speakers, laptop speakers, some other type of speakers, headphones, or earbuds?

I used to use headphones to listen to the audio from my youtube videos but I recently just broke the headphones, so thats why I'm got curious and want to ask. Feels odd to listen on phone speakers after using headphone for a while.

Okay so yesterday, I changed my password as a precaution because of the hack, and just now I decided to clean my browser tabs and re login and almost forgot my password. I'm done dealing with passwords.

What password manager do you recommend?

Features I’m looking for

-Open Source

-Can be synced to cloud (I don’t want self host)

-Can be accessed via a browser

-Cross platform, the more platforms, the better

-End to End Encrypted, and Encrypted at rest on my device, also need some way to authenticate before releasing the password, like a pin or biometrics

-Autofill for browser and apps

-Free (can be a freemium model, but I need the base tier to be free, too broke to spend money on this lol)

-Can export the passwords to a file

I never used a password manager before so sorry if I seem like a noob.

I know I could google it, but I want the lastest info, not some outdated reddit post.

Edit: Woah, those replies are fast. I think I'll use Bitwarden. Thanks for recommendations! Now I don't need to worry about forgetting passwords anymore. 😄

Edit 2: It seems I've forgotten my email password as well as a few other accounts I haven't logged into for a while. Damn, should've used a password manager earlier.

Not sure if its Google or the ACLU, but infuriating nonetheless.

A butterfly effect is the phenomeon that a small change in initial conditions that leads to a significantly different result than if the initial conditions haven't been changed. Have you personally witnessed such phenomeon?

Example: Your pet seeks attention and you decided to spend a few seconds to pet your pet before leaving for work/a party/shopping for grocerries/etc. You drive to an intersection and the light turns red just a few seconds before you arrive, the car ahead of you passed the intersection sucessfully. When you eventually arrive at the next intersection, you find the car ahead of you was hit on the side by another car from the intersecting road. The driver in the car ahead of you was instantly killed.

You've just been saved by your pet.

A malicious law enformement officer or a criminal can exploit copyright laws to prevent criminal activities to be posted on mainstream platforms. Read the article for a real life example.

No matter your stance on copyright laws, I think we can all agree there needs to be an exemption to copyright laws where if a video or audio recording contains copyrighted material but also contains unrelated content (like police violence or other criminal activity), then that should be exempt from copyright laws. Beside, who wants to listen to music that also has a cop screeching in the background, therefore, this wouldn't affect music subscriptions services in any way.

Even with such law, I don't have hopes of youtube changing their policies. I'm honestly sad for the future.

Title:

PSA: Lemmy.world has been compromised!

Post:

FYI!!! In case you start getting re-directed to porn sites.

Maybe the admin got hacked?

Images:

First, some random video show up, I'm not gonna watch it in case its NSFL content.

Second, the website tries to redirect me, but uBlock Origin blocked it

The Front Page

Side Bar got messed up.

Everything else seems fine, here is the signup page with the Lemmy Version visible.

Also notable comment from the Original Post:

Yea, I switched to this alt. It appears to be one of the assistant admins accts. Seems like an old fashioned anon prank, to me, they’re mainly just trying to make stuff offensive and redirect people to lemonparty.

So, y’know, old school.

I don’t know if any data is actually in danger, but I doubt it. I don’t see why assistant admins would need access to it.

Edit: Someone else said an admin's credentials was compromised:

One of the admin accounts appears to have been compromised. The owner/other admins appear to be aware now because that account had its admin access revoked and offending posts are being removed.

Definitely opens up a big question about the security of Lemmy instances that I am sure will be discussed over the next few days.

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com be careful with making admins. And secure your passwords, use 2fa, etc...

Edit 2: Now the entire front page is filled with posts regarding the lemmy.world hack. Interesting...

https://i.imgur.com/VvxiphP.jpg

Edit 3: Lol a post was made from the hacked account claiming the hack was fixed, but that account is still under the hacker's control:

https://archive.is/hRytN

Edit 4: Lol this is actually funny:

https://archive.is/wbQ2f

"Site has been seized by Reddit for Copyright Infringement" Lmfao

Edit 5: threads was put on an allowlist, and lemmy.ml was put on a block list, every thing else is under "linked instances". I wasn't quick enough to get a screenshot or an archive link.

Edit 6: lemmy.blahaj.zone just got hacked too!

I urge all instance admins to temporary defederate from lemmy.world and lemmy.blahaj.zone as a safety precaution.

I remember a while back Apple filed a patent that allows concerts to disable iPhones cameras if a certain signal is emitted from the stage. Apple never implemented this, but my pessemistic ass always try to think of worse case scenarios, like being used by government. Do you think this could occur in the future?

Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36672001

You can search "Apple Concert Disable Camera" and find more about it.

I thought: Okay I'll do 15 of these and start spamming twitter.

After I did those... it says I failed for some reason... Am I a bot? I'm starting to doubt if I'm human... 🤔

I consider myself a leftist and I'm pro-gun. I think the Democratic Party platform being so strict on guns is idiotic given how unstable this country has become. Police response takes too long and even when they arrive, I not sure if we can trust them. In a perfect world, we might not need guns, but as of now, in this imperfect world, I believe guns are neccessary.

People who don't live in the US are also welcome to participate, but please state that you do not live in the US. The gun issue in this context is about guns in the US.

Example: Lemmy Federated Airlines Flight 360 crashes with no survivors. Now the Lemmy Federation Air Crash Investigation Bureau finds the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit voice recorder, and they take those boxes aboard Lemmy Investigation Bureau Airfleet Flight 180 back to the investigation headquarters for analysis. This flight also crashes with no survivors. What happens now? Will the black boxes of Flight 360 still be readable? Also, what were the odds of this scenario happening?

Sorry I couldn't sleep and had to get this question out of my head.
