*Doug Ford. Rob Ford was his younger brother who was the mayor of Toronto, and who has since died.

I'm not convinced Doug would want the job, maybe in the future. Right now he's got a majority in Ontario and can do whatever he wants within provincial preview. He can, and I believe he will, cooperate with Carney and caucus to do what's best for Canada and Ontario in the face of Trump, because that will also be what's best for him, too. Fair's fair, he did a not-bad job during Covid and had a rare moment of cooperating with federal and municipal governments, and it truly made him look like good leader for a while. (He became his normal self after emergency measures were lifted and started blaming everyone else again.)

If he became federal leader now, he couldn't do anything but blow hot air for a while. It's a bigger stage, but lesser power, and it doesn't really do anything to benefit him. Doug is after dollars, but I think he does not like the maple maga and has no interest in dealing with them. Cut them out of the CPC base, they're not likely to win again anytime soon. Or he could just stay premier and have a lot of actual power.

For a serious response to your probably hypothetical question, I would give enough leeway to consider mental illness if the attack was truly random and the victim happened to be a hijabi. Of course, that would have to be substantiated with a medical history and what the ("alleged") perpetrator said at the time of the attack, as the article is not specific about that.

I also hate attack ads, but... Is it really an attack ad if you simply play the recording of what someone else said without editing it to make it worse (because it's already sufficient bad in its whole, truthful self)?

Personally, I'm not sure we can assume there will be an election in four years. Or if there is one, that it won't be an "election", like in Russia.

(Likewise, if the US ever did take over Canada by force, I'm sure we would be a territory like Puerto Rico and not have a vote.)

The best use, for me, is asking ChatGPT to give me five (or however many) scholarly, peer-reviewed articles on a topic. Then I search for said articles by title and author name on my school library database.

It saves me so much time compared to doing a keyword search on said same database and reading a ton of abstracts to find a few articles. I can get to actually reading them and working on my assignment way faster.

AI is a great tool for people who use it properly.

The tuition you paid was not the full cost of your degree. You paid probably about 1/3 of the true cost while the province paid the other 2/3. The province in recent years put a freeze tuition, and also capped what it provides to school; meanwhile inflation continues.

Paying for content is one thing. Besides greedy studio execs, there are a lot of small potatoes people trying to make honest livings who work to produce the final products.

Ads, though, are supposed to defray COSTS. Marketers part studios to run ads. Cinnamon paying for ads is an oxymoronic situation.

I know someone who had uterine fibroids. It didn't really bother her otherwise, so she just let them be, until people started congratulating her on being pregnant. (Then she had them removed.)

Gimp, Inkscape, and Scribus were terrible to use after using Adobe for years. Get Affinity suite instead and save yourself the rage and frustration. It's one-time payment license (not a subscription) and they have deals. I got the license for the three of them for $90. They are way closer to Adobe products and definitely worth the one-time cost.

I love the concept of open source, but you can only make so many compromises in quality and usability, especially if you're likelihood depends on it. Gimp, etc just aren't there.

(On the other end of the spectrum, Blender is so amazing I can still hardly believe it.)

I've been shipping them since Rutherford told Badgey, "I was just trying to impress Tendi. I mean, look at her, she's so cute!" Earlier that same ep they're in the holodeck in the EV suits and they accidentally embrace (due to mag boots) which mirrors the B'Elanna and Tom scene where B'Elanna told Tom she loved him.

But if you really think about it, they've been hinting at the crush since the beginning. He was willing to change his career to make the time to watch a pulsar with her (which was episode 2). When Tendi thought T'ana was transferring her off the ship, they tell each other how much they love the ship and hug. Later that ep he tells Billups he's been triple backing up memories with her because he doesn't want to forget her again. (Notably he doesn't mention backing up memories with Mariner or Boimler.) They've always just a little closer than best friends, and damned if it isn't adorable!

Also, did I hear right that the Ferengi Lower Decker was in communication with the mysterious vessel?

That's what I got too. He was both expecting them, and also said they told him they'd make a lot of profit.

Also... Parliament :) Canadians see the word often 😄

It's nice that "new" Trek wants to portray things like equality for LGBT people as a given; hopefully we can reach that one day. And I think it's good that LGBT people can "see themselves" on the screen without having their queerness be the focus of the drama. People just want to live their lives, and they want to see other queer people just living their lives.

On the other hand, showing the struggle and making it the focus of the drama, as Orville does, is the thing that helps people understand and confront the issues themselves. The whole story around Topa is very strong. Societal misogyny. Klyden's entire journey (his own sex reassignment, hiding it from Bortus, their separation, his rejection of Topa when she transitioned back, the family's eventual reunion). Bortus' struggle to make the right choice as a loving husband and father. Bortus having the choice taken away from him. Topa lacking female role models.

These kinds of things are still very real issues that a lot of people don't think about unless presented to them on this way. These kinds of stories help people imagine how they might need to support their own children, families, and friends.

It's not really possible to compare Star Trek vs Orville because Trek is an entire franchise (even now there are 4.5 shows) and Orville is just one. But if I had to say of the current shows, which one does society need the most for social progress, I'd actually say Orville.
