There’s a reason why PETG/PLA are used as interface materials for supports in multi-material printers. There’s no molecular bond and so the parts will snap off very easily.

I love when the track goes completely silent for a single rest after some buildup and then punches back into the full chorus. If that “gap” in noise is part of the melody itself it’s even cooler. It makes the following sound so much more impactful, even if the actual volume hasn’t increased by much.

I recall hearing a long time ago that most news sites, magazines, newspapers, etc. tend to target a sixth grade reading level. So, I don’t know if there’s been a sharp rise, but it’s not really surprising considering how far beyond most readers should be.

Well, self awareness goes a long way, so you’re on the right path. Lots of people get crotchety and cynical by focusing too much on things that are outside their control. Focus more on areas of your life that you can influence, and learn to enjoy your life for what it is rather than what it could be.

Honestly, if you’re the type of person who’s prone to this, disengaging from hyper cynical social media platforms (yes, including Lemmy) is probably another good idea.

My dad used to be super into politics and consumed rage-bait news on TV and social media a lot, especially during the height of covid. Once he unplugged from all of that there was a noticeable shift in his demeanor and I would say that he’s significantly happier and more content now.

JSON by a mile. I hate the YAML plague, it’s some of the most unintuitive syntax I’ve seen and yet it’s everywhere in DevOps/SysOps.

That might be more water than most water.

Consumer 3D printing. I still can’t get over the fact that I’m able to get a device for only a few hundred bucks that lets me manufacture almost any kind of simple widget on-demand in a matter of hours. It feels like I’m living in the future.

I'm in the process of renovating our basement for use as a home theater, and I have space to put up eight distinct movie posters. I plan on commissioning posters through an artist that I like so that they will all have a shared art style and appearance, so the look of the official movie poster doesn't matter to me. What I'm trying to do is select eight of the most iconic films of all time, across these genres:

  • Action/Adventure
  • Comedy
  • Drama
  • CGI/3D Animation
  • 2D Animation
  • Science Fiction
  • Mystery/Thriller (Not horror)
  • Fantasy

So, if you were to pick out a set like this, which would you choose?

I'm not sure if it's content or just functionality. I really would like lemmy to be more Google-able than it currently is as I still don't have a replacement for " reddit" like I did with, well, Reddit.

Also, something that will probably take a lot longer is generating content for older/dead topics. For example, my wife and I are watching The Sopranos for the first time, and I used to love being able to search for old discussion threads on each episode. Since Lemmy is much newer, discussions about these kinds of things may never happen at all unless I create a thread, and even if I do, it's unlikely that it'll see much discussion as it's no longer relevant or interesting, especially as you get into more niche interests and topics.

I know a lot of women who have played sim/management games like The Sims, Zoo Tycoon, Stardew Valley, etc.

A lot of this comes down to the actual survey questions that were used. If the wording of the survey questions was “Have you ever played…” as opposed to “Do you regularly play…” for example, then the numbers could be quite skewed.

This is legitimately helpful. What on earth are the acronyms actually supposed to stand for?

I barely even use stackoverflow anymore since GPT-4 arrived.

He is the chosen one!
