In a rare meeting with heads of 40 multinational companies, Chinese leader Xi Jinping sought to strike a contrast with protectionist President Donald Trump.

“China was, is, and will be an ideal, safe, and promising investment destination for foreign investors,” Xi told the gathering, which included leaders from American businesses including Pfizer, FedEx and asset manager Blackstone. “Going with China is going with opportunities, believing in China is believing in tomorrow, and investing in China is investing in the future.”

Following intense street battles, the SAF officially announced its control over Khartoum, sparking jubilant scenes among those who remained in the city.

Sudanese displaced to other states and refugees in neighbouring countries also welcomed the news, hoping for a long-awaited return home.

Mohamed Obaid, 40, from Nile East - a former RSF stronghold - described the terror of survival under occupation. “I stayed indoors for days without food, too afraid to step outside,” he recounted to Middle East Eye.

“I don’t even want to remember those days. You could die at any moment for no reason.

“If you received money from a relative through mobile banking, it was risky to go outside and collect it - they were everywhere, ready to loot your phone,” he added.

“If you managed to reach a Starlink shop to exchange money, you’d find RSF fighters running the place, seizing 30 percent of your cash for no reason. They controlled all supplies and sold them at outrageous prices.”

A Myanmar rebel group that controls one of the world's largest rare earth zones has told miners there it will allow shipments of existing rare earth inventories to China from Thursday, according to two sources and a statement reviewed by Reuters.

Rare earth mining in Myanmar is concentrated in Kachin state around the towns of Panwa and Chipwe, which have been controlled by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) since last October.

What’s something you wish it had? What can our community do to ensure that we keep pulling users away from US tech companies, and into the fediverse?

One of the biggest issue at this point is probably the registration experience. There are quite a few occurrences on !fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com of users not sure whether their email has been validated or not, and at the moment they really need to look out for the toastify notification on their first try, later attempts won't show it.

Most recent example: https://lemmy.ml/post/27607055?scrollToComments=true

If there could be a way to inform a user saying "your email address has been validated, please wait for an administrator to activate your account, you can reach out to them at xxx", that would be great.

Parallel sending of federated activities to other instances. This can be especially useful for instances on the other side of the world, where latency introduces serious bottlenecks when only sending one activity at a time. A few instances have already been using intermediate software to batch activities together, which is not standard ActivityPub behavior, but it allows them to eliminate most of the delays introduced by latency. This mostly affects instances in Australia and New Zealand, but we’ve also seen federation delays with instances in US from time to time. This will likely not be enabled immediately after the upgrade, but we’re planning to enable this shortly after.

No one under 18 years of age or under the regulated minimum age defined by your local law (whichever is higher), is allowed to use or access the website.

!196@lemmy.world probably did the biggest power tripping move since the creation of Lemmy with their failed attempt at migrating from blahaj to LW without asking the community first.

I wouldn't spend too much time investigating this, !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone is a much better community

really, really bad blood against Hexbear.

Those mods are just lost. The whole debacle when they tried to move the community to LW was a mess. !fediverselore@lemmy.ca for people interested.

Long live !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone
